How to Attach Ground Wire to Frame?

Anything electric, AC or DC

Ring terminal, self tapping screw.

Prime and paint over top of it all when it's assembled.

Same idea as the dielectric, but lasts longer.

Yup, thats how I did it but I used dielectric grease.

RV manufacturers do ground AC to the vehicle frame, and I believe it is in their wiring code to do it that way. DC negative can also be grounded to the trailer frame or not, either way is fine and does not interfere if both AC ground and DC negative are attached to the frame. Usually the vehicle frame is used as negative for the 12V running lights, probably to save wire.

Bill :)

What the manufactures are doing when they connerct a ground wire to the frame is called "Bonding". Yes this is a code thing, but more importantly is done for safety. If your trailer does not have a ground wire from your ground(green or bare) wire to the frame definatly add one.

Dedicated ground wires always work better, most of the time 12V failures are due to a faulty ground.

IMHO, I totally agree with Steve. I changed from a frame ground to a dedicated ground wire on my boat trailer and no more ground problems. In my Squidget, I used the ground wires from the WFCO converter for my cabin 12 VDC useage...two wires to every 12 VDC light, fan and outlet. The running lights have a dedicated ground wire. That's what the 4th wire on a flat 4-wire connect is for. KISS...KISS...KISS and I ain't meaning as in Smootching.

1) Fit grounding point to frame and connect to wire.

2) Assume (1) has already failed and wire up accordingly.

My previous post was referring to dedicated ground wiring of the 12VDC systems only. The AC to DC converter had a frame ground (AC ground). I see no reason to use a frame ground for 12VDC systems and choose not to.
