Hello everyone! I have been lurking around so much the last few days, I feel like I already know several of you!

My name is Michelle. My husband and I have decided to take the plunge and build a teardrop this spring. A few years ago, we built an 800 SF addition on our house...by ourselves in just 3 months while both working full time...so we figure if we can do that, we sure can do this!

We bought an old pop-up in run down condition for very cheap a few years ago, fixed it up some, used it a few times...hate all the set up involved, and the kids prefer sleeping in tents anyway. Our 5 oldest kids will all be off to college in the next 4 years, and we'll almost be empty nesters (before age 40!) with just one teen left at home! :) Yes, you did count right - that's a total of 6 children at home (and #7 is already graduated college and working).

We are in the planning stages right now...already have a trailer frame to use, and may use pieces and parts from the pop-up to save money (it's probably worth more part-ed out than as a whole anyway).

Just trying to figure out how we wanna do the build, materials, layout, window placement, electrical plans, etc. We want to make it completely self-sufficient, so it still has all the creature comforts without electrical hook-up (using propane & solar backup systems).

I saw there is a gathering at McCormick's Creek in July. Not sure we'll have ours built by then (hoping for it though). We have a farm with a vacation home just 25 miles from that state park, so we're planning on at least visiting to see all the teardrops!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Michelle

We need more Hoosiers in our camping group. Good luck on your adventure. We finished a 15 x 20 kitchen addition in 2000- 2001 and decided it was time to play also. We will be at site #8 in July so stop in and say HI. Remember the group will be in Versailles in May too.

Welcome aboard Michelle!

Sounds like you both are well qualified for starting a build.
Good luck from a fellow Hoosier down South.

Michelle, your trip to McCormick's creek will give you a chance to see what we all enjoy.

Please don't hesitate to bring a camera and a note pad.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Welcome aboard to the best Teardrop building site on the internet. Good luck on your project, it seems like you are on the right track. Swing on by on your maiden trip, to So Calif, there is plenty of room in the driveway for visiting treardroppers. The coffee is always on.

Roly, I was just out that way last summer, though not with a teardrop camper :/ We did enjoy an 8000 mile road trip, visited 15 states, in 28 days, but I would have loved to camp! Next time, I'll definitely take you up on it! :)

Welcome to the forum.

There are so many trailer designs and many places to look.

This forum is filled with folks that will help you every step of the way. Designed or using avaiable plans.

Before building check the frames welds, joints and springs before putting on the floor.
