What now...the myPOD II Build

Postby SonofT@B » Sat Feb 18, 2012 4:35 pm

Well I finally decided to build something so here's the thread..

I picked up the shell for a Yuppie Wagon from a guy in Atlanta who is no longer building them. It is basically a 7' x 4'+ x 4' molded plastic shell that is quite thick weighs about 110 lbs. They were used to make motorcycle and mobility trailers and could be used as a small enclosed trailer to haul just about anything that will fit.

I ended up using a Harbor Freight 4' x 8' trailer which I cut down to 4' x 6'. I finished assembly and today I mounted the iron angles to which I will attach the shell. I ordered a teardrop door from Franck at Vintech and will mount it on the back. I have decided I will insulate and finish the inside and probably add a vent/fan and two small windows.

This will be a minimalist trailer when I want to go camping by myself or with one or two of the Shih Tzus. We still have the T@B for when Jackie and I and the pups all want to go.

Here are some pics of the start so far...

So the plastic thing will end up being the entire shell? That's pretty cool.

Are you going to have windows? Will the door go on the back, or are you going to mount it on the sides somehow?

use some poly-shiner on it, like nu-finish and I bet it will just slide through the air. Kind of a neat start idea. At least if you never puncture it, the roof will never leak! 1x2 frame inside. sorry it just hit me, that wasn't towed by a motor cycle or a mobility (hover-round) it was to TOW those in a trailer, by a car, to a new location, for the use of the motorcycle/mobility...

I was thinking that would be about the right side for shipping a motor cycle in...

Interesting concept though. do you have a web link for the original manufacturer of those containers?

 combinations and permutations.... hmmmm  :-)

Cool, No Leaks would be AWESOME!!!.

Are you going to put some form of insulation in it??? What about Ventilation? I'm sure you could put some kind of fan to at least circulate the air.

If it was blue and standing on end it would almost look like one of those Handicapped Accessible Porto-Toilets!!!!

Can't wait to see more!!

thinking about it for months now, almost a year. I was thinking I would (next time I build one of these.) skip the plywood deck and just go right to self drilling screws and bolt the pod directly to the frame. on less thing to get water damaged over the years, and to worry about. That could be a motorcycle or even bicycle trailer...
sweet.

If you Google
List Alert teardrop camper georgia

There is a complete one for sale. so you can see what they look like completed.

It might be the same guy you picked up your shell from. I think one of those would work out great for a
hunting camper. Hopefully no hunter will hit it by mistake thinking it is a dear.

Actually Terry I think that it is this one and it's Mike's truck in the background of the pics.

OOps

I let the cat out of the bag and did the reveal of the finished camper before he started the build. Hope
there is no rip in the space time continuum.
