Oreellyfool's Gnome Mobile build

Postby Oreellyfool » Sun Apr 21, 2013 9:20 pm

I think its time to kick off my build off.
My Northern tool 5x8 trailer got delivered yesterday.
105229
105230
I started putting it together today.
105231
105232
Now it's to a point, that I am going to take it to my dad's next weekend and weld up all the pieces so I'm not relying on the bolts 100%.
105233
Should be picking up wood tomorrow or Wednesday to start the floor and walls.

Until next time...

Thanks everyone!!

I have definitely dove in. Last night I picked up a couple of cheap 1/8" 4x8 plywood sheets. Cut out two designs (as templates) and let the girl choose which one she wants. Hopefully by this weekend, I will have the actual walls cutout and will post some pictures then!

I got some progress done this weekend. I took the frame down to my dad's house (he has a welder) and I welded up the top of the trailer so I did not have to have all the bolts.

I also taught the girl how to weld too. (This is her grinding off her first attempt)
105597

This is one of my welds (I won't quit my day job, but not too bad for only picking up a welder once a year)
105599

I ran out of time, so I did not get my compartments done, those will be done this week hopefully.

Go the bottom of the floor on. Also picked up all my wood for the sides and ribs.

I got the bottom all sealed up. Hopefully this weekend, I should have the insulation in and the bottom on and mounted.

Fairly productive weekend for how much other stuff I did beside working on the TD

I got the floor insulated
105892

I got the top of the floor put on and bolted down to the trailer using carriage bolts and setting into the wood so they are below the surface. The dog was ready to test out the trailer.
105893

I got my sides cutout
105894

Also I was playing around with some door ideas and the girl liked this pattern so I went ahead and cut them out. I would say they are a little larger than what I was expecting, but I think they should work nicely (Plus with this size, I should be able to fit a larger window in there.

I call it abstract art......

The bottom of the walls are tarred and should be going on tomorrow.

Got the main part of it put together. Moving right along. I was a little skeptical on how sturdy it would be by putting the ribs into the walls instead of just screwing through the side, but surprisingly, it is very sturdy and when i push on the wall the whole trailer moves and the walls do not flex.

I have done quite a bit since my last post.

I got the interior panels on. I insulated the walls with window plastic (Between the outer plywood and the interior panels. I was reading about it and it has an R value of 1, so that is some insulation where I thought I would have none.
106436

The interior ceiling panels glued
106437

And the ceiling installed.
106540

Then after lots of filling and sanding of the staple holes, the staining began.
106596

This is the interior stained and the vent hole cut out.
106597

106600

Lastly, i also got 2 of the 4 jack stands installed, these sure are better than having to jack up the trailer and put car jack stands under it every time.
