Mary that is ok here. GPW likes to throw in comments about us woman on occasions.
I get that stuff all the time also. I was car shopping, and I brought along a male friend. The dealer (like the story above) kept talking to the male, he told him you are talking to the wrong person. i'm just along for the ride, its her car, talk to her.
I have the guy come out to work on our driveway, he stood there forever talking to my hubby about this that and the other and how much it would all cost, hubby finally spoke up and said you better start talking to her, she has the checkbook.
lets face it, its still a man's world (in thinking), but I don't get upset with it, I just use it to my advantage. :D

oh here is another one: I was taking my son camping,(tent camping) a few years ago. I had one tent that was ok, and used it for a few of our days. but when we moved along and went to another stop, I went to walmart and bought another tent. this one was a little bigger and gave us more room. now as I was at the site and trying to figure out the pieces and laying it out (since it was brand new) another camper came (male) came over and started to help, well he helped so much in fact that I just stood back and ended up watching. the funny part about this was that he had no idea how to put up a tent! he was an rv guy. he had to eventually read the directions! I could have had it up in no time. but I did not want to be rude to someone that really thought they were helping a woman in distress.
the only time I get upset is when someone tells me I can't do something, then it becomes a priority to proof them wrong.

sorry for rambling. :wine:

Louella, I am so stuck, I cant work on my TD because of the weather, sure it is going up to 50 today but but that will last only for a short time and not enough time to get all I need to get done. I have a few other things I can do but like a little kid I want to work on my teardrop! I am so glad you have run into those creatures, I don't feel so bad now. ( I am having a hard time calling them men) I believe that real men recognize the true value of women and respect them for their contributions to the world. Treat them like they are intelligent and like on here with a "you can do it" attitude. There is a Little old lady at church and when her husband suddenly died she had no one to help her. She got up in church and asked for help. First a lady accountant helped her get her money straightened so she could handle it, then a group of women went over and taught her to paint, sand and use tools. Her house is real cute. She and one of the women started a little business now called "spruce it up".
One day she didn't know the difference between a Phillips or fathead screwdriver, now she is a pro using them, I marvel over her ingenuity and her talents. She uses her husbands old tools and can use any and all of them. She was telling one of the ladies that she had to buy a new miter box because her old one wasn't exact, She now has one with lazer, automatic settings and can cut compound cuts. She is amazing. It is like watching a flower bloom. well I am going to Kristal's house today. I have been grooming her dog. Have a great day.
GPW Can I use gripper instead of gorilla glue with success? i want to use it to glue foam to foam and wood to foam. I hate gorilla glue, have ruined so many things :x I threw an almost full bottle away last year. I have lots of time to wait for cure time so that is not a problem. I am just going by the experiments of the Halloween lady.

Well when it comes to "me" actually doing the build, I am not that successful. Not sure if you read about my second build's floor, but it certaintly did not fit! and my first foamie, I really did not do the build, a group came down and built it. I know what I want, so I usually guide others to do what I want.

I had to laugh about the tent story , because my wife and I have tent camped for years " decades really " ,but when it comes to putting up tents if I put the tent up it takes five minutes . If she puts it up it takes five minutes too , but if we try to put it up together ... it takes about 45 minutes . We've been timed by friends . Now we take turns putting it up and the other one of us works on a different task .

Mary, They make construction adhesives for foam that will bond it to almost anything. You should be able to find it at the box store, just ask. Might be better for what you want to do. It comes in a tube so get a decent calking gun if you don't have one.

Here are some options that may work for you (some search results are irrelevant, of course): http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/catalog ... Search+All

The pool wall foam spray looks interesting for laminating. The PL300 would also work for laminating as well as bonding to wood. We also know that Great Stuff works for bonding foam to anything.

 that is so true here also! after too many nights of those 45 minutes or longer, hubby (when he used to go) would tell me to just stay back. LOL no problem with me, i'll just watch.
oh and the fire, now that is another story too. my dear hubby will take up 1/2 a night on getting a fire going. I swear I think he tries rubbing twigs together or something. I cheat and usually will bring a fire-starter log, all I do is light both ends and a few minutes later I am good for hours. :wine:

Just in the spirit of free thinking and Foamling technology... you may want to consider a simple Rocket stove instead of a campfire .... Simple , starts quick , burns HOT and practically smokeless ( Green ) and puts out a lot of heat with a metal top on it... cooking , hand warming , marshmallows ... uses twigs instead of logs... :o You can make one in a metal 5 gal bucket , filled with vermiculite for the insulation shouldn’t weigh much, easy to transport , and Handy at home too ... cost is “dirt” cheap ...

I can relate to the tent story. If I do it alone, even with the language unsuitable for children, I can be done in a few minutes, with my wife's help it takes longer. So most of the time she just sets up the kitchen. thankfully, we no longer have to tent camp it :applause: :applause: :applause:

As for the fire starting thing, if you resort to anything other than kindling and matches, you are cheating!!!!! I was taught that as a Boy Scout and I will live by that for as long as I camp. I have friends that use gel starter, a propane torch, fire-logs and the like. Cheaters, All of Them...  :o   :o :R :R :R

A propane torch is not cheating, it's efficiency.

If I am cold or wet or both, anything that gets me warmed up the fastest is what I will use. Be it a propane torch, gel, or a magnesium fire starter. If that is cheating, then I am a cheater. 8)
