Hi Doubltap,

I just came across this:

Here's a link to fellow forum member jeffmutch's gallery. He has
a rectangular box shaped TD on which he painted profiles on the sides
and painted the area outside the profiles black as you are thinking
of doing. It's almost a trompe l'oeil effect.

Hey D tap. have you seen this TD

This guy just joined the forum, and If I read it right he got an unfinished TD from a friend and is finishing
it. I believe he had no input of the shape. His Newbie thread is titled “ I have arrived...” The link is below
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=54137

This can give you a good idea of how yours will turn out shape wise. I think his accent trim holds the whole shape
together. There is just a back and side view posted.

Doubletap,

In a way, I agree with Bob (I can't believe I just said that! )

Experience from building my weekender style; Originally I thought the squared corners would be easier.
But afterwards, I do believe a radius would be better to work with, especially if you would use aluminum for the top. It was difficult / impossible to get my big sheet of aluminum in and out of the metal break without scrathing the snot out of it. :x
IF there is ever to be another build (oh, don't let my wife see this  ) it will be a more rounded, possibly Grumman 2 style build.
Sealing all the corners is another issue, especially in the front like that. The rubber roof material might not be a bad idea if you decide to round the corners. Take it from the bottom front all the way to the back. Do the research here on the forum, folks are saying not to use the thin cheap stuff. There's spec's I just read somewhere on that.

Anyway, these are just my thought's and opinions. Not meaning to offend or direct, just provoke thought when sitting on the throne during those "planning" moments. :poop: If I could get a camera hooked up to my mind, I'm sure I'd have the "perfect" set of plans for a build.......

Mezmo: thanks for the link. Yes, that is the kind of look I was thinking about. Junkboy 999: thanks for the link to that other build, interesting ideas there. Whitney K: I know what you mean about squared NOT being easier, particularly for running wires and such! Billy K: Good looking Rimple you got there. :)

And now for some more build pix! :D The January weather in Kansas has finally warmed up a bit, and I've managed to get a little more progress on my build. Still haven't decided if I'm going to actually round off the front of the trailer, or do a "faux" rounding with black or some other dark colour of paint. I think I'm going to do the actual rounding if I can indeed get some 1/8" Masonite or comparable material to make the proper bend. I have to agree, I think Bob's right on that point, and it will also be a lot easier to get my wiring down the front wall. Just will have to see what I can engineer. I'll have to do it soon though, as It's quickly approaching time to "fish or cut bait" on that issue.

Anyhow, here are some pictures of my finishing up the roof cross members, and getting the starboard side and port side insulated. Oh, and hey Bob! I found some of those plastic "rosettes" at Sutherland's [DARK green box store - Menards is the LIGHT green box!] a wee bit pricey, but just what I need for the fiberglass outside skin!.

101195101597101587101588101589101590 I also did the cut outs for the 110V AC, pressured water, and the external shower box. These all went in the port side lower rear corner, as the starboard side lower rear will be taken up with the air conditioner venting. 101591

I used a mix of glue and sawdust to fill a knot hole depression in the rear floor [not all the way through, but deep enough to create potential problems with any future floor covering. 101592 I then cut out the portal in the starboard lower rear for the air conditioner condenser air inlet. I had toyed with the idea of employing a smaller vent, but conversations with a number of local HVAC luminaries have led me to believe that, at least in this case, bigger is definitely better! 101594

Next, the interior side walls go up over the framed insulation. Here is the starboard wall lined up to scribe the locations of the picture window and A/C vent. 101598 And, finally, the starboard inside wall is ported, installed and screwed down to the exterior wall/insulation frame. 101595101596101593

Well that's all for Saturday, 26 January 2013. The warm weather is supposed to hold out for another two or three days, so I'm hopefully gonna be rockin' & rollin' through Tuesday! Going to go up to Sutherland's tomorrow and get a sheet of 1/8" Masonite and see how it takes the curve I would need to put in the front top! Hopefully, I'll have some more to post tomorrow night!

BTW, thanks to all of you guys for the suggestions and tips galore with which you have been kind enough to provide me. This is what makes this forum the absolute best! 8)

Well, here we are in the dang middle of March. Haven't been able to get anything done since the last week of January! Cold, snow, rain, and just generally lousy weather. Finally got a good day or two in this week, Middle of March, and will be posting a new set of pictures tomorrow.

Finally got some NICE weather today, Friday, 15 March. 8) 85F in Topeka, Kansas in the middle of March! Who'd a thunk it! Got the ceiling mounted inside the trailer, framed in the laterals for the roof vent, and cut the ceiling out below the framed box. 103271103273103275

The port wall interior is finished, and I started laying down the bottom frame work for the cabin/galley divider. The starboard end is 1x2, rather than 2x2, to accommodate the placement of the air conditioner. 103274103276

Oh well that's all for today. Hopefully the "bad weather" that's coming in tomorrow won't be TOO bad, and I can get some more done this weekend! :)

Two weeks of lousy weather, rain, cold, ice, snow....you name it! Good weekend here on 30 - 31 March, and got to start on the back counter. I also brought out the Coleman electric cooler, microwave, and sink to arrange around the rear counter area to make sure everything would fit. 104025104026104027104028104029 To top everything else off, I now have a sore throat! Agrrrrrah ! :x

Since weather is supposed to be halfway decent next week, hope I can get over this sore throat soon enough to take advantage of the good temps!

Hope that sore throat doesn't evolve into the head/chest congestion and cough that has been going around. Two weeks later and I still have a little cough. Good work on the build with what little good weather we have had.

Oh boy Bill, you are right on the money! Coughing to beat the band, stomach muscles so sore from the coughing that I feel like I've gone a round or two with Ali, and head congestion galore! Getting better though. I wanted to go out and work a bit today, but "she whose wrath is not to be incurred" gave me her best "you must be some special kind of stupid" look, and so I took wife's wise advice and stayed inside today. Maybe tomorrow or Thursday.........!!!! :worship:

I'm not a doctor, but a few of us in the office had that "thing" and put up with it for about a week. Slowly, one by one, we went to the doctor who prescribed an antibiotic (I got pinicillin)(we all went to the same doc, same symptoms, all 3 got a different med) and within a day and a half cleared up and on the mend. You might want to consider seeing your doctor if that is an option, cause it's hard to shake with otc med.
Just my thoughts, didn't say they were good ones. :R

First off, thanks to Bob and everybody else for all the well wishes during my bout of late winter flu! Well FINALLY I got some more work done in the third week of April and the end of the month. This has got to be the longest winter I have ever seen in this state! Arghhhhhhhhhh! :x ! Oh well, since last post I have gotten the interior sides finished, and then got an interior partition up between the galley and sleeping area; complete with Air Conditioner cut out down low on the starboard side:

105772105776105773105774105777

As soon as the wall was mounted, I then went back to the galley to work on putting the counter top on, framing up a chase for the Atwood power distribution center, and putting a shelf for a microwave up high on the port side.

105775105780105778105779105782105781

As you probably noticed, I also got the hole cut for the mounting of the sink and faucet assembly. Oh well, hopefully the first weekend in May won't be TOO cold, and I can get some more done. I want this thing campable SOON! :)

Well, back again, it's Sunday night. Couldn't get a dang thing done Saturday, weather was horrible. :x Got going on it after lunch today, and worked late this evening. Main accomplishment today was getting the Atwood power distribution center mounted. The distribution center will carry a 110v AC main circuit breaker, two branch 110v AC circuit breakers for the galley and sleeper area, Nine individual 12v DC circuit breakers for the galley light, the Coleman 12v DC thermoelectric cooler, the water pump on the 15 gallon water supply, the main cabin overhead light, the two porch lights on port and starboard sides, the overhead vent fan, The Jensen music center, The over berth reading light, and the two independent reading lamps on port and starboard sides at the front of the cabin. [Note: The Coleman thermoelectric cooler shown in the third picture does not go in the cabin, but rather in the galley. It is merely being temporarily stored in the cabin area.]
105896105897105898
I next need to get the back wall behind the cooler area mounted, get 110v AC power to the galley, mount the microwave shelf above the power center chase, mount a power strip on the sleeper side of the back bulkhead to supply 110v AC for the Air Conditioner, and then run the 12v DC circuits. Hopefully, I can get started early tomorrow morning. Temps look to be up in the 50s at only 0800, so I hope I can get a bunch done. Will try to post back here later this week. :D
