Well it's Monday again and it was 2 long days. The results don't look like almost 17 hours of work but it was. I lot of time was spent removing and moving and adding on here and there. I have caught a lot of hell from my friends and fellow employees about furnishing the caboose before the drywall was in, but my caution is actually working out well.
The appliance layout was a PITA. I originally wanted the stove in the center flanked on either side by the fridge and freezer. Well I ran out of fender well. I wound up having to cantilever over a bit to make everything fit. The only thing that would do this was the stove cabinet so we shuffeled a bit. This required moving all the outlets upward to clear the extra tall countertop. Had the drywall been on this would have been a much more difficult fix.

Friday on the way home I breezed past a buddies with a 6 pack I promised for a 50 foot 3-10 S.O. cord out of his yard sale. He toss some more goodies my way to help with the build....

A 40 ? pound propane tank. Image

I had no idea why I took these racks when I tossed them in the truck I think I know why now. One of them will be the battery and propane rack on the nose. I just tossed it down in this picture a little rearranging is still in order..Image

Here is a shot of the final efforts of the weekend

( Hey scuba notice the formica counter went in like it belonged there no cutting at all thanks for the donation)

Here is a little spice rack that was purchased at a yard sale in the early 90's for $2.00 it lives on...Image

And the hood and range you saw given to me about 20 pages ago is all installed and the light and fan work just fine.Image

here is the $30.00 mini freezer....Image

and the $40.00 mini fridge...Image

Here is a night shot taken without a flash....Image

Sat out there this weekend in the camping chairs and watched a movie and had the nascar race on while I worked sunday.

Oh I did score at Goodwill on 50% off first Sat. A CD rack that I mounted on the inside of the cabinet door directly above the under the counter Am FM radio and CD player. It was a dollar. And picked up $15 Led bulbs for $3.00 each, I grabbed three of them.

Yep it was a busy but a great weekend !

It wouldn't take much now to make that caboose livable, should you have to move quickly. ;)

I have told the folks at the DOT that I am about to be the only homeless man WITH a house! :D

They are working hard to try and get me a crack at the distressed property and I am grateful.

Called last night about a 40x60 pole barn for rent. Want to look and see if the property will accomidate the caboose and the depot trailers as well. Then I will have a shop to store my life and putter in.

Well how about a bureaucratic cluster to start the day. I have been trying to buy one of two little cast off properties left after a road was moved. Well yesterday I was asked to notify the county of my intentions to determine if either property is in the counties emergency plan. One is a paved cul de sac that the state feels may be being used as a turn around for busses and emergency equipment so they need clearance from the county to proceed with the sale. The county needs a $100.00 fee for a formal exemption to permit a one unit campground. The county suggested I make my offer to purchase to the state contingent to being able to get the permit. The state wants an OK from the county to proceed with the site study on the properties. As of yet I have been unable to get a asking price from the state so I can make an offer to purchase with that contingency. :?

So what did come first.............. The chicken or The egg

That is an extremely sharp caboose but you would need a bigger tow vehicle.

That one may have more room but yours will look equally as nice once you get it finished and everything in place. Just think, it means less to have to clean!!!!!! Sometimes less is best.

Well my weekend was shot in the butt. Saturday was a total wash out since my sister needed my assistance. Got home at 3:00 PM and was out of the mood to do much more than step into the Caboose and survey what needed to be done.

Early Sunday I had to find a second driver and rescue my car from my mechanics shop and drive it home. Did finally get started on the caboose about 11:00. I stuffed 1" and 1/2" blue foam in between the two plys of the plywood sandwiched trusses and placed a total of about 40 small 2"x2" ( 1 1/2" x 1 1/2 ") blocks around the barrel cut out of all the trusses to have blocking to attach the ceiling. I investigated where to cut the hole and mount the 5,000 btu window shaker AC unit. I never got brave enough to cut it though. I put a second coat of paint on the trim around the side door and cut and installed the trim around the front window, sealing around the window with 100% silicone.

Nothing done was really even worth taking a new picture.

The blue was the 2 plys of foam board and the bottom red blocking were the ones I installed after the foam was in.

Well a little good news finally came my way.......

Panicing about the house selling before I would be ready to make the move I have been rock turning for a place to land short term. Well Saturday I am to meet with a very nice older gentleman and rent a 3000 sq ft pole barn for $200.00 a month. Directly in front of the building are 2 very large round silo pads at ground level that will provide a great pad for the caboose. Its very rural but 10 minutes from Lafayette and 15 minutes from work. I was looking at $75 to $100 for a storage building anyway but now I won't need it. I will save 30 minutes a day driving into work, so gas savings will add up as well. I have a good friend that needs shop space and he will rent a portion of the building from me. The best part is it has a 200 amp electric service so for the first time I will be able to get all the tiny camper trailers out of the weather and have a real honest to God shop. I know the creed of the tiny housers is to pare down and simplify and I will. However my tools are almost sacred to me and it was cutting my heart out to give up the big stationary tools I have gathered thru the years. I will now have a place for them. :D :D :D

:applause: Good deal Bob, glad to hear you have a place to go, even if it might be temporary, that is, until you find your own little piece of land to call "home". At that price it might be tempting to stay.
