D-rings (update 6-12-13)

I found these neat little d-rings on Ebay. I plan to use them without the plastic backing plate along the existing holes in my NT trailer frame for tie downs. For example, I tie the frame of my Easy-up to the trailer frame as an added safety measure to keep it from blowing away (that's in addition to a stake in each foot). They can also hold down a cover tarp when storing outdoors. They can also be used for many other purposes inside or outside the cabin or galley. The plastic backing cap is 4" in diameter and the center hole is 3/8".

If there is a State Trailer Supply near you, they have a nice assortment of D-rings and tie-downs. I have bought and used many of the less expensive ones $1.39, and they are well made and sturdy.

How about inside on lower walls to tie down lawn chairs and maybe extra folding table. I would like to go with 1/8 skins over frame /foam and am worried about gear shifting in transit and punching through the skin.

You might want to use something a little smaller for inside the cabin. I was kind of surprised at how big these were when I finally received them in the mail (I should have read the fine print). They will work fine on my trailer frame (without the plastic backing plates) but you can find smaller ones for interior use. With the thinner walls, some means of securing your load would be a good idea. I have 3/4" plywood walls and I have a few rub spots from my load shifting around.

I have them in several spots in the galley, and in the cabin. Perfect for mounting with 1/4"-20 hardware. Here's one pair on the cabin floor and another pair on the door frame . I also have several in the galley (most everywhere a bungee cord is, there is another pair).

Good to know that there are more places to pick these up. Tie downs really come in handy.

Those are also available from other dealers as "airline track," I plan to use them on my build for holding down the EZ-up, the dog's leash, roof rack, etc.

Here is a pic of the d-rings installed. I decided to use four on each side for more flexibility.



I found a neat 3/8" button head cap screw on ebay to fasten the rings to the frame (along with a nylon lock nut). I think these look pretty good.

They look great. Having more tie-downs is always a good idea.
