Looking at the progress you're making, you've definitely made a case for CNC cutting the wood.
Any guesses on what it would have cost if you didn't have a friend like Vinnie ?
In looking at your pics, does the back wall sit inside the side walls or does it project off the back of the deck ?

Looking good !

W2, I really have no idea of the rib cost other than the price of the plywood ... But I’ll ask Vinnie !!! It’s writing the program that was the time consuming bit ... the machine was pretty quick to cut things out , so "machine time" is not much .. I’d guess an hour or two ...
The back wall just adds on over the outside of the last rib ... Trying to keep it as simple as possible ... Have door framing to consider , just have to buy a door for the final measurements .... or make one .... but "You know who" wants a real door and a screen door too .... so a commercial RV door looks like the ticket ... She’s buying it so no worries eh !!! ;)

Ps. Vinnie has taken to calling it the “chuck wagon “ ... :R

Ps. Stopped raining (for now ) .... hot as blazes outside ...

I see where Vinnie has taken to calling it the chuckwagon. It does bear a strong resemblence. I just need a friend like Vinnie to CNC wood for me. It would be nice if the projects fit together PERFECTLY!!! Great Job! You gonna beat the weather GPW? Keeping fingers crossed for you. I heard the forecasters are looking at an active season for hurricanes. Just hoping they don't make landfall. :worship: :worship:

Mel, as you remember , we went through a lot of thinking and looking around for rib materials ... It was only when Vinnie volunteered to cut the ribs that it all fell together ! If I had to cut out those ribs with my jigsaw, I’d still be cutting ... and they still wouldn’t be Perfect ! :o
Now Vinnie is thinking about using the same ribs for a portable hunting or fishing camp, a backyard bike shed , or temporary shelters for the homeless... I’m sure if anybody wanted a rib set , he would cut ribs for them...and for a very reasonable price... ;) Now just a matter of loading wood on the machine and pushing the button ... easy to ship flat-pack , no oversize parts ... We’ve given this a lot of thought ...

Despite my best efforts , the foam panels don’t fit Exact, so we’ll have to use a bit of spray foam for those gaps .. no problems , just little details ... Of course , naturally the first build is the Learning Curve.... the second one will be much Easier ... and perhaps a little more innovative.with the foam application .. 8) Working on the idea of pre-bent panels that just stick on the frame ... Heat bent so no kerfing , no stressed foam ..

From conversations with interested parties , this will not be the only FoamStream ... I can only wonder what I’m getting myself into ... :NC

Hurricanes , sometimes we get LUCKY !!!... occasionally Not ... :frightened: Happens !!! I’m not only hoping we don’t get one ... I HOPE Nobody gets one !!! :worship:

That's why I was asking about price, hehe. Seeing yours come together made me think about ribs for a cover for the Glacier Project. When it's done, the ribs would break down and store to be used as a camp shelter. The cover would be a poly tarp, bungeed down tight along the edges, so the frames would need to be self supporting. I think doubler plates over the joints would be the ticket to making it a break down, with the plate fixed to one side of the joint and a bolt and wing nut on the other. The 'puzzle-cut' joints ought to lock it in place....but now I'm getting dangerously close to hijacking your build thread.

Something to check if you're going with a used RV door - one of the ones I scrapped out (the camper, I think) had a core of corrugated cardboard strips on edge.
While that might be fine for cheap interior doors, you can imagine what it looked like in a soggy old RV
Hopefully they aren't built that way now. Besides, she can afford to buy the best, right ?

OK, I sent a message to Vinnie asking the Price for a set of ribs....
Recycling is sure a Smart way to go .... Thrifty too !!! ;) 8)

As far as RV stuff goes , I really believe it’s SUPPOSED to Rot away in the driveway ... There’s BIG Money in RV maintenance and repair

Got the top of panel 3 glued on ... You can see it’s clouding up ... :o

 I kind of saw what WW saw in the previous pic, it doesn't look like there is much floor (plywood) behind that last rib in the pic's. But in this newer pic it looks like you are going to use that plank as a sill to fill in the back of the trailer frame and act like a threshhold... place to put your shoes if they get muddy, and a spot to land that back wall (maybe?). Looks like you are leaving plenty of side wall/roof foam overlapping that back rib to do that.

The top arch really has a nice uniform shape to it. It's looking good. :applause:

KC, Yes we have to do some framing on the back wall .... just waiting to get a door and frame up from there ... with the correct measurements ;) And yes the foam will hang off the back a little , but will be wrapped under with the skin ...the plan is to cut the existing foam flush and just add foam over the top of that ... (theoretically)

Got the top of the last #3 panels glued up , just missed the rain ... :rainy:

Mike , Me too !!! There will be lots of sanding and shaping on the top rounded part of the nose ... I’m making a long “idiot stick” to sand with so as to get everything even ...a trick I picked up in my Brother’s Body Shop years ago ...

Only the two top panels left to go ... Hopefully tomorrow ... Weather permitting ... :NC

... and just for sake of discussion , the old drawing is Off .. :o Showing a more pointy nose (just a concept drawing then , two years ago ) ... Just imagine taking a curved rib section , laying it down on the floor in the front (fixed) and then another about 3’ above it parallel to the floor rib, connected with stringers in the slots ...That will be the Round bottom portion of the nose ... the top will be just filled in with Foam and carved away ... I have plenty left ... ;) All that foam for 120USD... Had I chosen to use the standard foam , I’d have needed at least 8 -10 sheets ... not only Pricy , but impossible to find locally ... The only place I found it here was the insulation house and supposedly Wholesale @ 45USD a sheet ... Ridiculous !!!

Ps. you can see the last two kerfed panels inside , still have to hot wire an inch off the top of the thick one ... should go quick ...
