Was going to work outside .... but it’s just Too Darn HOT !!! 93F , heat index 107F ... Thinking makes me sweat ... Work narrowed down to a few cool hours in the morning .. about all I can handle anymore ...

Ps. while at the HD today , I checked out canvas tarps ...right across the aisle from the T2... not a very impressive selection , nothing heavier than 10oz. canvas , and somewhat Pricy IMHO for seamed material ...

Have you checked out Big Duck Canvas? I do not know prices any place else to compare. Hoping some one else can compare.

Running short of the right thickness foam , we’ve resorted to gluing back together that V kerfed panel , that broke apart upon bending ... This time we’ll cut some extra kerfs in with the mini router , and lay some fiberglass drywall tape on the outside to further protect the bend ... beats driving a hundred miles (there and back again ) to get some more foam ... another “test” ...

Here’s a pic with the panel glued back together and the fiberglass tape applied ... The tape works really nice and is very sticky ... I’ll cover it with the Gripper before attempting to bend it ... the tape should handle the tension loads on the outer part allowing the inner to bend without fear ... “theoretically” ... Also adds a bit of extra strength to the front end ...

Now then .... while that’s drying , I cut the 2 blocks for the top of the nose cage attachment and glued them in ... black Limba , because I HAD some ... scraps fished out of Vinnie’s trash bin, too small to make a guitar ... perfect for these little jobs ... and a Freebee ... They will get a couple screws once the glue is dry , then the ribs will be glued and screwed to them ... A minor detail ...

Made a drawing of the rear door framing ... homemade door .... Maybe I can get Vinnie to cut out the door and frame on the CNC (Plywood ) ... assuring a good fit ...

Woodworking question. Is there a reason you glue, clamp while drying & once dry install screws? On wood to wood connections I was planning to apply glue then use screws to hold the pieces together in place of clamps. Is that wrong or at least not as good as your method? Just trying to understand.

Actually I’m just trying to save a step dragging the drill out now , and then having to drag it out later too ... Once the glue’s dry , I can drill and attach the block and rib all at once .... Conservation of energy for the “old one” ...that and I have to get as much done as possible before it gets too hot .... heat index is predicted to be 3 digits today ...

Painted on some Gripper over the fiberglass drywall tape ... the Gripper easily fills in a good deal of the coarse weave... I’d have taken another picture, but it didn’t look different enough to bother ...
Looks like we’ll be using FDT an good bit ... it bridges gaps Nicely and just seems to make the foam much stronger... and it’s relatively cheap ...

K, as far as putting in screws into glued wood it depends on what you can and what you are trying to accomplish, For example I put screws into two pieces of wood to add extra holding while drying or put screws into and through to hold in place. Sometimes glue is not sufficient for the amount of stress that is put on the glued area. My decision to put screws also into the wood depends on the stress. The more stress, the more need for screws.

Started kerfing that other panel ... sideways this time ... What a MESS !!! And after I finish the cuts , have to go back and scrape the leftover foam bits out of the slots ... using an old kiddie arrow ... More Mess !!! Had to stop mid way because the router was getting a bit hot to hold ... let it cool down , and me too ...

Good to hear. I just bought some gripper yesterday in hopes of gluing some of my galley area together with it today.

George , the Gripper works pretty good ... Odd, it does seem to take a little longer to dry than other primers... The kerfed panels are inside the FS cabin now (like an oven in there)... But I’m going to leave them in there till tomorrow morning , just to be sure ... Looks like that V kerfed panel won’t be a loss after all ...

Randy , you’re not the only one ...

Too HOT now to work on anything else ... 91F in my Studio Sitting in front of my new 20” high velocity fan ... which is not only cooling , but is blowing all the little foam bits I tracked in to the one side of the room .... hopefully easier to vacuum up that way ... or just a more localized mess...
