Nebraska Barn Find - 1946 Sportsman

Postby cryptojones » Sat Jun 29, 2013 11:54 pm

I picked this up for $300 dollars yesterday. The inside is trashed, but I can definetley use the tailer to build a nice TT.

With the shape it is in, I really think I should just gut the whole thing and rebuild from scratch.

Great find and a great price. Did you get any kind of paper work with it? Do you know what it is and what year? If I had that, I would restore and up-grade. The thing is you have all the right parts and appliances. That's a plus.

Very nice!

Here is a very similar one, perhaps even the same brand?
It is a 1948.

As Gage suggests, upgrading is a nice option.

Definitely keep that stove if you can. It will set the tone for the whole redo.

Nice barn find! Like Gage said if you have the paperwork that is half the battle. That looks like a project that my husband and I would tackle. But we like a challanges! I take it the kid in the blue shirt heard you say scratch. :o

What a great project! I hope your plan is a rebuild/resto type thing, not a scrape off and new restyle. If it was in a barn in Ne, chances are, the floor is in quite good condition. If it were me, I'd strip out the later remodel that someone else did and then evaluate what you have prior to really tearing into it. Late 40's canned hams are a real nice item to have...and at that price, well, that's just icing on the cake. Doug

Yup, it is definitely the same thing! Your build looks amazing. This is an amazing large project. I am somewhat intimidated now that I have seen your build log.

I DEFINITELY want to redo it now that I have seen how amazing Rob's build came out. First step is to start cleaning it out. (Previous owner had old clothes and junk in it.)

Mr Jones,

Don't tell anyone...but I was a little intimidated too.

Just do the best you can, if this project is what you really want, and you have the time, energy, and money to see it through, you'll have a really cool trailer at the end.

Rob
PS. be sure to check the steel frame before moving forward...

Crypto...like Rob says...they can be intimidating. Just see it as lots of little things that need to be done as opposed to a great big thing. I'm sure you've heard the old saying, "how do you eat an elephant, one bite at a time". I think you made a wise decision in the resto of it. Get a punch list together and think it all through. That's just way too complete and unmolested to do anything but. Others opinions may vary. Doug

that is so incredible. I would SO take on restoring that if I had found it. My 1st camper many years ago, a slide in truck camper was far worse than that and I restored it and used it for many years
