gas struts

Has anyone had luck using struts for a galley hatch that were robbed from a van or hathchback at a boneyard?

I used the struts from a Subaru Forester on my first build. They worked ok, but it wasn't perfect.

New gas struts are actually pretty cheap, and then you know exactly what you're getting.

I would go with new also, but that is just me.

I've had to replace the ones on my 2000 Durango twice. Once they start to fail you may not notice until its gets cold - usually at a really inopportune time - then they are impossible. Not real expensive parts so definitely not worth using used. Just my experience.

I bought mine at Mcmaster.com They are very affordable... like $15 to $20 or so...
