Good Morning!

Good Morning!
My husband and I are just about the proud owners of a 7x12 v nose cargo trailer. We plan to convert it for camping, but I have ordered it with some of the basics I figured I couldn't travel without: windows, 36 inch rv door with screen, 30 amp electrical package, 6 inch added interior height, drop axle, ramp in the back, exterior plug, brace and wire for AC, trailer brakes, and rear stabilizer jacks because of the single axle.

It has taken me several months to decide- I began thinking in earnest in March, but I have been dreaming for years. I started with thoughts about tent trailers, then travel trailers, then tear drop trailers. Since we are hauling a couple of recumbent trikes and maybe a couple of kayaks from time to time, that just wouldn't fit in any of the other options, my tear drop research led me to a cargo trailer to convert.

We want to take the trikes with us without as much fear of theft , and be able to camp at many of the trails across the US. Since we moved to South Carolina from Nevada, we have learned that we just do not have what it takes to camp in a tent when it rains everyday and there are so many bugs and critters in this part of the world.

So, we ordered the cargo trailer from a local dealer, that in itself took a couple of weeks to decide since most of the trailers are built in Georgia, it took some research to decide to just buy locally, the trailer is still being built in Georgia!

I should get a call this week for window and electric plug in (3) placement. I appreciate any suggestions you might have about the placement of those

And we should be able to pick the trailer up the end of August. Then I will post pics as we make it our home away from home . (We hope to drive across country with it next June)

Welcome aboard.

Having an AC one of your outlets need to be dedicated for that. These small 5000 BTU window AC can run on a 15 amp circuit as long as nothing else is on running on that circuit at the time. You can still use that outlet if the AC is not plugged in. That outlet need to be close to where they will mount the AC. Never run the AC on an Extension cord. If you have a counter, cooking surface, or work bench an outlet will be best there. It is always nice to have one close to a door or rear hatch in case you need to snake a cord out the door for a power drop outside.

It might be a better use of brain power for now figuring out how you are going use the space. Sitting, eating, cooking, or sleeping. These activities might help recommend where power outlets need to be places.

Hope this helps and again Welcome to the forums.

A 5000 btu AC unit only draws an average of 4-5 amps. The startup draw (less than 1 second) may be 15 amps. I am only running one 15 amp circuit, and have not had any issues. Also, it does not matter if it is "plugged in", it only matters if it is running. I guess if I had a hair dryer going, and my AC kicked on, I MAY pop the breaker, so just turn it off while drying your hair!

Thanks for the welcome.

I hope to have the AC in the vent, so it won't be so loud, but we will save for that. It should be ready to hook up, since I ordered the vent wired and braced for my untrue AC.

I would have liked to have saved some money and installed the things I ordered, but I am afraid my husband and I aren't that handy.

I ordered the ramp, just in case I might need to haul/park something I can't lift into the trailer. I also thought with proper bracing we can use the ramp as a patio?

We are excited, well I am anyway!

I feel like I have read a million posts here so far! I am really glad I did before I had to tell the dealer where to have the windows installed.

I read the standie thread and figured out where I want my future bathroom area- in the front so we can take advantage of the v nose.

Anyway what are your thoughts of an AC in the roof vent or cutting a whole in the trailer and putting in a window AC???

Thanks, all y'all have all the knowledge!
