Interior skins and door thickness

Postby DoctahDeane » Fri Sep 27, 2013 2:32 pm

Hi folks - just about ready to cut my sides and I called one of the door suppliers and discovered that the doors are 3/4" think with about 1/8" play. They felt that a skin on the outside of 1/8" would present no problem. But if I insulate with 3/4" insulation I will need to skin the insides which would add another 1/8". How do people handle this issue? I would much prefer to pay a little extra to get a good door with lock and screens etc, rather than build one myself.
I keep stimulants handy in case I see a snake, which I also keep handy. W.C.Fields

If you are looking at the standard manufactured door like Frank Bear sells, you can buy thicker rings for different wall thicknesses up to about 2 inches. Call Frank for the size you might need.

My walls are 3/4" thick inside with a sheet of 1/4" on both sides. I called up Frank Bear and ordered the doors for walls 1.25" thick. He had to order them but they arrived a couple of weeks after the phone call. They might go on to morrow, but they fit fine. These are the 36" high black full-glass doors. They're nice. Frankly I'm glad I don't have to build my doors. Cranking out a tear is a big enough project without that step.
