Benn gone again to California for the last two months, finally back home in Boise for the time being as of a week ago. Christine is flying back to Napa tomorrow to continue taking care of her mom. I'll follow later sometime in October with the new (to us) big ass truck towing our Jayco TT since we might be wintering in Napa.

I've got some pics of the 914 somewhere. Will try to locate and post one or two here.

I can't tell you how much I miss mine. When I moved to Atlanta a few years back, had to trim the herd, and this one went, along with a 73 914 street car and an 86 951 mostly street car). This one was a 76 914 2L, still had the original fuel injection, an old set of Garretson headers (the original design that Tangerine Racing ended up buying), full safety system with a custom cage, etc. Was set up for a driver and passenger, as I am also a driving instructor for PCA, and it is nice to be able to take students or other instructors with me. Street legal still, just not street comfortable. At the time ran in J class for PCA club racing, which i think has been flipped to A class now.

Car was an absolute blast to drive, and I do miss it.

Pardon me if I don't enjoy your humor. In the past 2 years I have suffered the loss of my father and my mother. I would appreciate if you would get off my ass, maybe even show a bit of sympathy for our loss.

Perhaps you won't appreciate my 914. I grew disenchanted with the piece of dung 2 liter VW engine that ate valves on a regular basis so finally replaced it with a Buick V6. I have two 914's, a 75 and a 76. The 75 was the first to get a 3.8 liter Buick V6 engine, the 76 is awaiting a transplant of a 4.1 liter very hot rodded Buick V6. The 4.1 liter engine is built and sits on an engine stand in my garage awaiting when I get time to transplant it into the 76 914.

I was a member of PCA for several years but did not care for their then attitude towards the NARP (not a real Porsche) 914. When I replaced the junk 2 liter engine with the Buick V6 it only got worse so I opted out.

I have a build thread on 914world.com. I'll try to find the complete URL and post it here. I haven't been current on that web site for a while due to all my family problems. In fact, I haven't been current on any web site of late due to my family problems.

Here is the build thread on my first (red 75) 914 Buick V6 conversion. Go through all of them and you'll even get to see a pic or two of of me. 8)

In times of loss, the only thing one can say is "I am sorry for your troubles".If I lived closer,I would come help.Strangers often do. I was a charge nurse in a deficit free nursing home before I was a psychiatric nurse. As it is "I am sorry for your losses and troubles".

I have never been a diehard purist (hence my ownership of a Boxster and Cayenne now), and 914's in any form have always been near and dear to me. I am happy to say my 2L was really reliable, and other then the rebuild it needed after 3 years of dedicated track use, it never let me down. I can certainly see the draw for additional power, and in a package way less costly then a 911 motor. The subaru conversions have always interested me as well.

I am sorry about your PCA region. I belonged to the Rocky Mountain Region in Denver, and they were some of the nicest and most welcoming people I had ever met. At the time, we had 3-4 active track driven 914's (not counting the big Sheridan body kitted, 911 powered full custom race cars of which there were another 3-4), and we got a great deal of respect from the club. I know how much it varies though. We had a chief driving instructor that had come from a region on the east coast, and the first event I went to that he was overseeing, he kept trying to drop me into a lower run group. He just assumed with a 914, that I could not keep up in an advanced group. In a 20 min session, I got passed by 1 Cayman, no one else out of the 12 or so cars out there, including several 911's, Boxster's, and a 944 turbo.

Keep on doing what you enjoy. :)

Grant,

I have a lot of respect for those of you who can make the 2 liter engine work for you. I know they are incredibly capable engines in the right hands... Problem for me was, I was not the right hands. :o

I fell into my first 914 by accident but loved it the first time I drove it. I put up with its poorly built 2 liter engine until it went south on me. Tried a 1.8 liter and it too went south on me. Then a 1.7 liter and that was enough. I have no expertise in the type IV engine but I do with American big and small blocks so went with what I knew best. No complaints since.

Having driven several stock 1.7-2.0 914's, up to a 3.6L wide body track 914, I do not blame you at all. When you can throw yourself violently back in the seat at whim is a LOT of fun (I enjoy my Turbo Cayenne for that now). I am a much better driver, on the track and on the street, as well as a much better instructor because of my time with that car. I had a discussion with a fellow club racer once (he drove a 911 GT3) and he said a 914 was much easier to drive, and took a lot less skill. I countered that it is harder to get on trouble with a 914 (weight distribution of mid engine, plus lower speeds), but in turn, it was much harder to get lower lap times. Every mistake, extra moment not on the gas, etc was momentum you could never make up. If I butcher the corner coming onto a straight, I will never get that rolling speed back. It affects all cars, but the lower the HP, the greater the impact.

I will say, a 4 cylinder 914 handles noticably better then one with a bigger engine. Hence the Subaru conversions looking so enticing. It's not that they handle bad, but they just handle better with less weight. Throw one on an AutoX course and it is a massive difference.

I do concede, that a 914 with a big motor (911 or domestic) sure does sound impressive, and is a blast and a half to drive, especially as a daily. :)

Yes, I am still alive. Been side tracked with other ventures. It was time today to winterize the CT. Mid to low teen temps will be upon us Tuesday morning.

So what does it take to winterize our CT? Not much. :D Empty the porta potty of all water and waste, dump the galley water for the pump faucet, and put the sink pump in the open position. That's it. :applause:

I have been even more displeased with the linoleum we installed. A few pages back I noted that it started buckling last winter. It flattened back out some this past summer but never got back to how flat I rolled it on the original install. It's not really been that cold so far this year but it is already buckling up worse than last year. That's it for me with so-called "commercial-grade" linoleum. It will be removed come spring and replaced with something else, not sure what that will be just yet but am leaning towards bamboo flooring. Replacement suggestions/recommendations are welcome.

I haven't decided what floor to go with yet myself, but I'm leaning toward real hardwood. Being that the trailer is only 6x12 the cost difference isn't huge. I'm more concerned about the weight but again, give the size it's not a huge amount of difference. I will have to finish it with something like "skateshoe" I believe it's called - made for roller rinks as I plan on hauling a motorcycle or 2 often. Let us know what you decide to use. Bamboo sounds intriguing due to the possible lower wight and hard finish.

Hey Don!!

Glad to see you poke your up to the surface. I installed the bamboo floor in my hall. I really like it. It has held up to our household traffic very well. The main traffic other than my wife & I is a very active 65 lb olde english bulldogge. As long as you leave expansion room on the edges like you would in the house, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I have been surprised at how durable it is.

Dadgum it! I cut that board 5 times and it's still too short!

Hello Ernest,

I hope you are doing well. Sadly it only takes one jerk on a given forum to make me want to stay away. :?

I'm still working on my CT conversion but haven't accomplished a lot of late. Too many family issues and too much time out of town. I hope to get back into it come spring/summer 2014. I now realize there is no way around not ripping out the linoleum flooring and replacing it with bamboo, hence I was very happy to read your post about your flooring. That's what I want to do.

Stay tuned for more to come as I get back into my build.
