Nano Cub

In 2006 I started exploring the idea of a nano cub, aka ultralightweight. In the second picture, look in the background. There is the 2006 ultralight!

Over the past year I've been revisiting the nano cub. I tried cutting a nano cub side piece this weekend. I hit several snags, mostly on the Y axis... The y axis kept on slipping. I just barely managed to finish cutting the side, and the set screws came flying out of the side of the sprocket. So I am now dead in the water. New sprockets are on order.

But the bright side is, look at this pretty cnc cut side. I could cover it in epoxy, and not have to worry about delam.

I hope to be able to try again next weekend...

That is too easy! After the first side the second is gravy. Will you cut the foam the same way comping the reverse side of the lines? If I was to build another tear drop I would do the cookie cutter like that ,but I would have to do it the hard way with a cutout jig made with a Sawsall and router base sleeve. The stick method is not as strong (lots of joints)and harder to do (a lot of pieces verses one piece) I think. Have fun with the build.

Mike , that’s just TOO COOL ... Did you make that CNC yourself ??? If so that’s Brilliant !!! Lots of uses for a side cut like that ...

Just saying... I wouldn’t mind a couple sides cut like that out of 1/4” ply as an inner frame for a “you know what” ... I’m sure we’ll be discussing this in the Foamie’ section....

Yes, it's a 4x8 1/2" plywood. I"ll run down and check the weight in a bit.
