Hello from Georgia

Postby matman1972 » Tue Oct 29, 2013 8:27 pm

Glad to have joined the forum. I've been planning to use this winter to build a lightweight teardrop to pull behind my VW trike. My daughter is wanting to take a trip with me next summer for her graduation. We haven't decided on the destination yet, but we plan to stop by to visit family in Peoria, Boston and Sacramento, so it will take most of the summer.
Thanks for all the information I've found so far. I'm looking forward to getting started.

Welcome.

If you find yourself in the neighborhood next summer
you are welcome to driveway camp.

Picking out a base trailer now. I'm trying to decide between a cheap 1700 lb capacity harbor freight, or just purchase the running gear and weld up the frame myself. Weight savings and cost savings with doing it myself, (want to keep it south of 500lbs) , but a time saver if I just get it in from HF.
Checked with a steel supply shop here about getting in the aluminum for the roof.
I am also trying to decide if I want to make it the full queen bed width by building over the wheels (and not have to do fenders) or if I want to go 48" and order a custom matress.
My plan (carefully blueprinted in my head) is to build it with epoxy'd and varnished sides with an aluminum top. I want a fairly simple kithen out back with storage space for a small cooler, shelf for a propane stove and maybe a small dry sink with a drain.
I already have one front oval rv window, an overhead vent, and all of my framing wood. Just need to get the trailer picked out or built.

Welcome Mat. the forum is great and has been a blessing to me. The information that can be found here surpasses an instructional manual. Plus the crazy and new ideas by inventive people can be out of this world. I live near Waco Ga. Off I20 near the state line. Good luck and welcome!!!

Mary, Thanks for the welcome. I've been to rodeos near Waco several times. I'm in Austell .
Already appreciating the ideas. I'm not sure they will all be easy on my budget or weight goal (now I want an AC unit in mine)

I build best under pressure!

Only big problem is I'll end up having to build this one under an awning outside since the garage is now full. Guess the epoxy will be done in April or so when it warms up.
