Demon's Tiny trailer build

I picked it up for 300$, it of course needed a bit of work and I've been lazy over the summer and didn't do much.

Well, it didn't take long before I started gutting part of the interior, the old plywood cabinets at least, they HAD to go!

Insulation was a MUST, there was nothing to it at all. The metal frame was 3/4 inch thick so...

A little wood paneling to make it look nice... I need to finish this. Also need to choose a ceiling material and a way to mount it secure. Also made cabinets out of 2x2 and 1x2 as well as parts from habitat. Added a plug for cable or TV antenna, makes the TV picture nice and clear. Picked this 19 inch up at the pawn shop for 50$. HDMI input, HD, digital tuner and all.

Also have a new hauler, sold my V6 Magnum and bought an SRT with the 6.1 hemi.

Only minor things have been done after the the cabinets. Moved the AC to stop the leak, sealed up a lot of it. It doesn't have a galley, just storage. I plan to remove the rear door and seal it up, add side doors and an inside door. Then I plan to cover the entire thing in roll on truck bed liner to seal it completely as well as make it easy to clean and look better than the white house paint that is on it.

Interesting frame, what is it made of? Looks to be 4 wide?

Happy camping

It's metal tube frame, pretty sure the guy that built it just torched it all together. It's 6 foot wide, yes you read that right, six foot wide and right at 8 foot long with a full width axle. It's really over built for what it is and it's rather heavy but solid.

Spent part of the day chatting with another owner that is local then worked to seal the rear door shut. Took out the rear inner wall and started rebuilding it with cabinet doors. It will be storage as it doesn't have a galley.

No pics as I was just completely worn out and starving. Will try and get some tomorrow.

Will be fun to see what you do with this one. I keep hoping to find one like that for a few hundred dollars that we can work with. I want to do one for my daughters family can use.

Hi (Speed) Demon,

Interesting little project you bought there. Metal framing to boot.
You should be able to finish it out as you want without too many
troubles.

Kayakdlk did a great job finishing out his "Colorado Teardrop" with
truck bed liner. It's a really nice TD. Page 4 onward have the exterior
finish posts. Here's his build link:
viewtopic.php?f=50&t=57065

BTW, if you haven't named your TD yet, consider calling it "The Speed Bump".
or "The (Speed) Bump". It's side profile looks like what the cross section of a
speed bump would look like, and it'd play into your old nickname of "Speed demon".

Just a suggestion...

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

I think I like that, will have to bring it up to the wife about the name.

Still trying to make up my mind if I am going to get bed liner and cover the whole thing or if I am just going to try to pull the fiberglass off and re-skin the top differently. I might just cheap out and line it and do better when I build the 2nd body. Only problem is that I found a bit of rot in the cargo area when I started tearing into everything. Might have to do a bit or ripping and replacing of the rear outside skin area. Something I will have to address for sure and soon so I can get back to work finishing the interior.

Hardest part I have right now is figuring out what to do with the interior to cover the insulation and ceiling.

GPW had good results using chip board (single ply paper board) from an art supply house. He used 1/8 inch; treated it with "The Mix" (50/50 oil based polyurethane and mineral spirits) to waterproof; glued on with TB2; then painted.

Have a look at his FoamStream build here.

Thanks for the advice, I will look them all over for sure. Got a late start today so didn't get as much done as I would have liked. Tested the new stereo AM/FM/AUX/SD and USB. For the price it is great and the short depth makes it even nicer for this build. Chose a way to mount it, used some old hinges for brackets, will make some beauty panels soon. Started work on the ceiling, using 1/4 inch plywood and adding runners across to hold it up. Going to take 1x4s to make rails for the runners to rest in also, will make a nice transition I think. Anyway, here is today, you can see where the stereo will mount when I am ready.

Got a lot of parts in, but with snow on the ground I can't do anything.. got doors on ebay real cheap, going to keep my outside storage after I replace the bad panel and will have an inside access also. This cold and snow needs to go!

Well I haven't pulled the bad panel yet, waiting till I have a couple of nice days and going to pull the bad panel and then the rest of the glass from the top. Then once I get it all set I will spread the bed liner on. Still trying to find just the right size windows, as well as the right price.

Got a bit of work done today as my cord came in. Installed my control center, cut the wood and framed it in. I was planning on throwing a piece of plywood over it but I really like how it looks as is. Guess it's going to get a few licks with the sand paper and maybe a coat of clear lacquer or varnish.

Sorry for the blurry pic... Here is the rear wall, partially built, will finish after I do the top as this is the only access to the rear area atm. 30 amp power line and installed a 30 amp plug in the garage. Put one outlet above on the rear wall.
Image

Image

Have my battery lines ran outside at the moment till I get a new AMG battery, will be easier to mount as it won't need vented and can be mounted anywhere.
Image

Other outlet is behind the TV, thought that was a good place for it.
Image

And have one more outlet, on it's own breaker and line in the cabinet on the right. AC and heater plug into it only, so it is out of the way and out of site as the AC has a higher amp draw. Keep from popping it's breaker that way though I had the AC, heat, tv, both lights and the vent on to test out the system. Ran flawless.
Also wired up the stereo but haven't made up my mind where to mount the speaker on that side.
