By the time i'm able to make it to Burning Man, the EPA will have outlawed outdoor fires.
in case anyone cares, the EPA is trying to regulate wood burning stoves out of existence

They already damn near have in California's central valley, we have no burn days unless it's your primary source of heat, it's been in effect for over 20 yrs now and they are even trying to stop that. :x

So many members here on the Forum have talked about going to Burning Man.....so today I googled it!
It looks, dry, hot, dusty, crowded, busy and loud???
And what is with the people that are there setting everything on fire??
Looks like some kind of cult thing, with pagan rituals!
Don't know if it something we would attend. :NC

It's really mostly just a bunch of old Hippies and some young ones that celebrate their free spirit every year with an audience. I personally have not been to BM but a friend of mine has, and he is not a Hippie by any means. He said that he was never so shocked, amazed, entertained and had the time of his life, but I think he only spent a couple of days not the whole week. Yes it is very hot and dry and I'm sure miserable in the heat of the day. It is also extremly well organized, there's a waiting list for tickets that are way over priced, and when everyone leaves it's left cleaner than when they got there, they say you cannot even tell there was that many people there for a week. Any way it's on my bucket list but the ticket prices would have to come way down first, nor will I ever get on the list for them, so I imagine I won't ever make it.

I don't think it would be alot of fun in a teardrop - you really need a respite from the elements to rest, cook and eat. You also have to be fully prepared to bring everything you would possibly need - especially water. Showering might be problematic.

I've considered going. It looks like fun. It's an arty/hippy thing for sure. If noise, dust, hippies, fire, art, staying up all nite, loud music or weed (or drinking) bother you, then stay home.

The Airstream folks have a presence and their own "village". There are lots of recommendations on the web - taping all your windows and vents is one - on how to "survive" it.

It would definitely be better to go as a caravan and stay with your own kind. Circle the wagons so to speak.

My buddy took his 5th wheel and says to this day he has never gotten all of that fine desert silt out of it. I'm sure the "veteran" Air Streamers know that the dust storms are a given when you visit BM.

Got in line right on time but was not one of the chosen. Burning Man sold out in 44 minutes. Maybe next year. So sad.

Wow!! Shows to go ya it's a pretty popular venue. I know it's on a lot of people's bucket list....just a little pricey for me though. Never talked to a person that has been that did not have the time of their life.

Rob, sorry you did not get your ticket. I got online right at 1pm and had mine in less than 15 minutes. But stay tuned there will be people bailing out and selling tickets. Maybe even me again.

It is all that and more. I did not find being there in a tear drop to be a hindrance. We had several shade shelters set up and during the heat of the day chased shadows with our chairs. Black Rock City is where bicycles are royalty as you can not drive once you set up. Unless you have an art car. So it is bike if you want to see more. And I have to as I can not walk far. Biking is not as hard on me. Showering? Who needs it when your whole camp doesn't shower, nobody knows.  The only reason why people tape up their windows is cause they have noisy gen sets to run their ACs so they can stay inside and miss out on a good part of the event. I find that I enjoy facing the whole week out there. If BM is to much for you then try one of the regionals. I go to the Element 11 in Utah and in many ways I like it better than BM. But it is not as long. Only 4 days and 3 nights. And being a lot smaller you meet people and meet them again and again. At BM you meet someone and it is rare you will ever run into them again.

And if you can't find some one to go with or group to camp with just go. The playa will provide. You will not be alone for long. Trust me.
It is not that crowed if you stay on the outer rings. Now the party when the man burns is something else. I found it to be to loud with crappy noise passing for music ( and I am not the only one ) I will watch him fry from a distance next time ( probably ) Yes there probably will be drugs there. Nobody will force you to take them. Alcohol flows freely but I can't say I have seen to many people overly intoxicated. Not like college. Of course I did go to a professional drinking school. Yes you have to bring every thing you need but if you for get something just remember, The playa provides.
