Where problem seems to lie in today's web publishing and pictures, picture are so huge in pixel count and storage size (xxKB) with the new cameras that are capable of MEGAPIXEL'S is picture data is so massive and for web publishing are so big and it takes a ton of storage space on website servers.... For web publishing megapixel pictures are way beyond a size that displays well on websites... It's how your new wonderful technology is actually making life a bit harder on you....
There are utilities that can do the resize for you, basically its just editing software in your smart phone or tablet or PC.... You can load graphic, and then just re-save it to smaller format... Some websites have different criteria on picture sizes limitations though... A size the seems to work well on internet is 640x480 pixels.... Also saving graphic in JPG format (a compresses format) will reduce picture size in storage space size, which some sites also have limitations on...
IF you are on a PC based machine a pretty good picture/graphic editor is IRFANVIEW ..

One thing I try not to do is resize the original picture... You never know when someday you want the master picture in its original size, I always try to work with a copy... Usually when making it I try to include a "S" in file name for small... Like original of "dumbo.jpg" and resized is "dumbo-s.jpg"....
