Plastic hatch hinge questions

I really like the design of the EURO/New Zealand plastic hinge, but I can't seem to locate a supplier here in the US. Anyone know of one? The only ones I have found look like a flat strap; which will work but I'd prefer non-aluminum with a profile like those pictured here in this thread.

I have used this hinge on a luggage trailer and it has held up well over the last 6 years, but the weight of the two doors is minimal. Your hatch will be be reasonably heavy so if you go ahead make sure you install it in such a way that you can remove it again if it splits.

I had to buy a 3 Meter piece so I have enough for a replacement. I would have preferred an all external hinge but could not find anything like that in NZ.

I came across this hinge when I googled teardrop hinges and seen it on GaryDierking td. Has anyone else used this hinge and are there any updates on how they are working? I found a supplier that stocks it in the USA and I am thinking of using it on my td build for the hatch and doors like on MeelisV td.

Yep, still holding up after 2 years and 7000 miles

Are they sturdy enough? My hatch is soooooo heavy (that's another subject I'll be approaching soon). It is 60 lbs to lift from the handle, approx 175-200 lbs where the props are and that's a lot of pressure on the hinge area.

My plastic hinge is similar to those posted. It's barely used as I'm still building.
If your are in the uk google Albert jaeger they supply truck and bus builders. I'm guessing if it works in that environment it will work on my td hatch. It's called a continuous hinge. Besides being easy to fit its waterproof.

If your are in the uk google Albert jaeger they supply truck and bus builders. I'm guessing if it works in that environment it will work on my td hatch. It's called a continuous hinge. Besides being easy to fit its waterproof.

Thanks grantstew8, I am in the USA and I did find a supplier here in the states and I already placed my order for 2 - 8'+ (2.5m) plastic continuous hinges. 1 for the hatch and 1 for the doors. Thanks for the youtube video, That helps on how I am going to install it on mine.

For anyone that is interested in these hinges you can get them at Moore Industrial Hardware in Cincinnati, Ohio. You can order on there website http://www.mooreindhardware.com/index.html. I got both hinges for about $90.00 including shipping. They have 2 sizes, 1 is just about 1" (23mm) deep and the other is just about 1 3/8" (34mm). I am trying the smaller one. I did not check the depth when I order, I just thought the design was a little different. If I would have notice the depth I might of went with the deeper one.

Update - they still have them! Call 800-543-1677, Hal helped me out from MRO hardware, they call it Plastic Continuous Hinge, in AU they call it Centaflex

The reason I want this hinge is because I am doing a squaredrop and I think this hinge will be perfect for helping me seal the rear hatch. I am basically following this video in regards to installation:

Cost was $48! I got a much longer piece than I'll need in case I want to use this for the side doors as well.

I had one on my tongue box. It lasted three years. I bought it from McMaster Carr. It was marketed as, "UV resistant."

Just an update on my plastic hinge install.
I ended up replacing it with an aluminum hurricane hinge from Vintage Technologies.
The plastic one just didn't hold up well to the weight of my hatch, (60#) which I have since lightened a bit.
It was a thought, didn't say it was a good one...
