BeCeejed in Texas

Postby BeCeejed » Tue Apr 01, 2014 6:18 pm

Hi everyone!

My name is Charlyn, CJ for short, and you can call me Ceej, BeCeejed, or "That weird texan chick," its all fine by me.

I love the beach and use to live in FL, but now I live in Central Texas. I am, however, about 3 hours or so from Corpus Christi/Port Aransas. I recently got a job where I work a 4/10 schedule so my now always 3-day weekends are super. My new plan going forward is to find a way to camp at the beach.

Since I recently traded down in power from a 6 cyl jeep clocked for towing to a 4 cyl Sonata that can't tow anything (1000lb tow capacity, I'm sure some of you are familiar with THAT issue), I was worried I would have to tent-camp, which is a nightmare at the beach for setup in wind conditions alone. Then I found you guys on a google search and my new plan is to build a light teardrop for me and my pup to weekend in.

I'll need a lot of help cause I've built a doghouse, some bookshelves, and I've watched someone pack bearings before, but thats it. I wouldn't have even thought of attempting this if you guys didn't have a RIDICULOUS and fabulous amount of resources I perused lightly while waiting for registration.

If I take it slow, design well, and work carefully, I feel like the dog and myself will go back to being beach bums in quality comfort. I'm so excited!

I'm working out some design specs based on many of the resources linked in the stickies on these forums. I'll post something about it when I feel I need to start asking questions I can't already find the answer for. Till then, I'll be surfing around the forum and spying on all of your wonderful projects.

Welcome to the forum! There are many women on the forum that have built some very cool trailers. So I am sure you can too. Hopefully a few will post up. If you need help just holler, someone is always willing to answer a question.

Hi CJ
Welcome to the Forum!
You are going to love this site, and we really don't want to lose you, because you already sound like one of us.
We all love camping! Especially TD camping!
So here it comes.....I don't want to sound negative here! But, unless you have a shop full of tools or a good friend that has a shop and a multitude of skills, you should think about gathering information here that will assist you in "buying" a completed Teardrop!
It will save you time and a whole lot of money! It will also allow you to get to what you love most.....quality time at the Beach!!!
Just another opinion, and there are lots here on the Forum! :R
WELCOME!

I agree with you Brain, thats why I bought mine! I have so much respect for anyone who builds their own, but I realized it was'nt for me, but whatever you do, research first, and good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice Vedette! I'll be building mine because I have accesss to quite a lot. I just haven't used any of it since I started college! :/ Will take a little time remembering stuff, and I really will probably have to buy the trailer for the Teardrop as I don't have much experience with metalworking.

CJ, Welcome to the world of teardrop builders. Northern Tool sells a 5' x 8' trailer that works well for building a teardrop FREE SHIPPING — Ironton Heavy-Duty Trailer Kit — 5Ft. x 8Ft., 5.30-12in. Tires Item# 37552 that occasionally goes on sale. In addition you may get a discount by searching for "northern tool discount code". Best of luck with your project.
