Beautiful piece of machinery there. You most likely know that you can clean and wax the table using a good paste wax to protect it and help move the wood across it. I bought an older cast iron jointer/planer that was "broken" and upon giving it a good look over it just needed a good cleaning, degreasing/re-greasing and the two tables reset. Works like a champ now. Would love to find an older model saw that the one you found. Hard to find around here.

Thanks guys. I haven't decided whether to use some old Turtle wax that I have kicking around, or something like bowling alley wax. The lane wax is probably greasier, so may not be a good choice.

KC,
I have used any hard wax I had on hand to wax the table saw table, Turtle wax will work just fine. I think the bowling ally wax might leave a residue on the wood you are cutting that would mess up any finish you apply. Just my .02

I'll have to dig that wax out and remember to bring it with me... if I can find it. :NC

Tonight I got the last bits of blue tape off of the front by the street side riblet. I may have mentioned this before, but I have learned that it is much much easier to hold the tape back a bit when applying it, say from 1/16 to 1/8 inch, and never risk having it get under or into the glue joint. It is far easier to wipe the excess glue so that it does not get caught up in the squeeze out, or pinched under the edges that way, and the result is actually cleaner than scratching away at the blue, or worse, having some tape stuck in the joint that just can't be fully removed.

I had a couple of small areas like that, and I was a little concerned about them, but then I realized that I was 12 inches away with my head lamp on. :? When I stood back and looked thru the curb side doorway in the ambient light I realized that I was picking nits. The next time I am laying down some poly, just a little lick with the hobby brush in the corner to seal the little scratches up and all will be good.

Right… now on to the roof. The inner ceiling panel (including the front wall) comes first, but before I join the three panels together (front wall, front radius with front ceiling, and main ceiling) I want to make the cut out for the front storage locker in the front wall panel; and since I have decided to divorce the tongue box (TB) from the locker and front wall, I need to redesign both the locker and the box.

So I dragged the original prefabbed parts for the locker out, then played with and stared at them for an hour or so trying to “see” the changes needed. Attempted a couple of hand sketches, even had a go at laying out my thoughts directly on the parts, but it seemed like a waste of time compared to being able to do it properly in the 3D model the next chance I get. (I probably should have stayed after work and done that instead.) Anyway, my original design for the locker was pretty crude, with simple joinery, and no provision for trimming the edges of the wall ply at the cut in, so I will take this opportunity to improve the design in a few areas. I’ll rabbet the outside edges of the locker opening so that it forms a hard edge around the cut in; and the area that would have been the back of the TB under the locker will need to be cut shorter. I’ll lose some volume to the extra panel separating the two areas and the gap between them. Also, the locker sticks out of the front wall a few inches, and the mounts welded to the tongue for the TB are only 5-1/2 inches in front of the wall, so I’ll probably have to step the TB under the locker, being careful not to create a trap for debris or water; and it has to look good, too!

So even though I didn’t get much physical work done, you have to go from point ‘A’ thru point ‘B’ to get to point ‘C’.

For wax, old candles work pretty good for me. Better if they are softer(bee's wax).
Otherwise watch for boxes of sealing wax in the canning area of the grocery.

I admit it I'm cheap sometimes.

Thanks Pchast. I'm sure I can come up with something suitable.

Here are some images of the original front locker and TB design to show what I was trying to describe. Actually, this is the second design iteration where I had raised the floor of the box by an inch to allow for the rubber isolation mounts.

This is looking up at the curb side bottom of the box.

And this shows the interior of the front wall (side wall visibility turned off) showing the locker space under the key catcher shelf. It will get a door eventually.

This is a wire frame view looking thru from the curb side.

The original plan was to have the side vertical planks of the locker (the backwards ‘F’ shape with the water shedding angle on top and the opening of the ‘F’ representing the locker section) extend down to form the lower rear part of the TB.

Now I think I will make the lower part of the ‘F’ be part of the locker down inside the wall “behind” our pillows and just shorten the rear portion of the TB to a straight vertical panel. It looks like the truncated TB will still land on the rear mounting tabs so I think I can make it work.

That's how it got put on the UT, and how it got taken off of the UT! Gonna use the hoist to get it up in the loft, hopefully this weekend.

The locker would be a good place to put in a false floor and make a secrect cabinet hidden by your mattress. Would be within arms reach if you heard a noise in the middle of the night and needed some extra security. Just an idea...

So for the last couple of days I have been working OT at the daily grind, but have also been staying later to redesign/remodel the front locker, separating the tongue box from the front wall.
Image

Although not really visible in this image, I took the time to redesign the locker to include rabbets at the corners and panel joints, as well as a blind dado for the sill of the opening side (which is above pillow height on the inside). Whereas the original design had the same wall thickness foam in between the inner wall skin and the area of the TB under the locker, I eliminated the raised floor in the locker (replacing it with a small sill to cap the edge of the inside wall panel) creating a well in the locker. In order to get back some of the storage room that will be lost to the separation and additional panel thickness at the rear of the TB, I eliminated the foam in this area and made the well in the locker bigger from front to rear; big enough to get your hand down to the bottom of the well. I have mixed emotions about having this breach in the insulation, and the potential for moisture to condense in the locker, but the alternative is to relocate the mounting tabs on the trailer for the TB, which means dealing with the epoxy paint; doable, but not pleasant. I can decide to add a layer of insulation on the outside later and move the mounts then if it comes down to that.

Another change was to raise the floor of the locker up to where it is flush with the bottom of the cabin floor. It had been down an inch to match the isolation mount height under the TB, however, I decided that it would be more of a hassle fitting and covering than it would be worth for them to match visually. It will be far easier to space the TB up an inch than to mess with the locker hanging down in front.

I thought I had exported a new side view to compare, but I must have sent the files somewhere other than my thumb drive because it didn’t make it home with me.

Tomorrow I will go out to Mecca after work and make preparations to hoist the table saw up into the loft; maybe work on the locker assembly some.
