1st build - Greetings

Postby shorestyle » Fri Apr 18, 2014 7:56 pm

Matt Nolan, 24 years old. Richmond VA

I have been building a teardrop camper the last few months. July 1st I will be departing on a few month journey to the National Parks across the USA. If anyone is interested in my adventure or my build please check out

This trailer has turned into a lot more than just me "building the trailer" it has became a window for adventure. Not only am I very excited to start my journey across journey. I have been thoroughly enjoying every step of my adventure in building it. Thanks for hearing about my journey thus far.

*My door is not on curb side and have heard tons of grief. ha!
I have not followed any plans and I am sort of winging it, so if anyone sees anything they think I could do to make it better please feel free ANY feedback is positive feedback. This is exactly why I joined the forum.

Cheers!!

Good luck with the build and travel! :D I will be checking your adventure.

I want to ask you, what kind of camera are you using to take the photos in your blog?

It won't be long until you're done! Love the porthole window and the turquoise paint.

What fun it will be to spend a year on the road, seeing the country! Thanks for sharing. :applause:

The galley is just about finished, need to buy a small cooler still.

I am putting the exterior aluminum roof on this weekend. I wanted to paint it a forest green. Is that a terrible idea
since it will be attracting so much heat?

Thanks!

The galley looks really nice. I like the combination of the turquoise painted cabinets with the woodtone walls and shelves. :applause:

Matt...your tear looks great! You've done a great job on it. I'd maybe rethink the forest green on the exterior. Think about the color you have in the galley. Those 2 won't work all that great together. I personally think a trailer should have an entire color package that works well with the other colors. Match the color on the galley to some of the paint chips at Home Depot and then maybe ask someone there to help you out on picking some coordinating colors to work with it. Or, if you have someone that you know that is good with colors, ask for their input. It's your tear and this is just my personal opinion, so FWIW. Doug

Great job Matt! You have a beautiful trailer there and you should be very proud. Wait till you get it out on the road. People will stop to see it and talk to you way more then you might want. These little trailers are a magnet for people. So plan accordingly.

Enjoy the great adventure!

Nice build. Like your cabinets. A warning, though: if your trip follows the route shown (in your link), in early to mid July, over the southern parts of Louisiana and Texas, be ready for upper 90's temperature / incredible humidity. If you're not used to the climate (and even if you are), be ready for sweltering nights. I don't see any A/C in your photos, nor a high flow fan (the only alternative to A/C, IMHO). And cross-flow ventilation helps, too. Consider adding screened windows on both sides. Anyway you go, have a nice trip!

Galley looks very nice!

I agree with Doug; the forest green and turquoise won't get along together. That turquoise is beautiful, tho, so why not paint the outside with the same color?

We got some exterior work done this weekend. Image It's nice seeing things starting to come together. Decided on doing some shellac and stain on the sides and the raw aluminum on top. Can't wait for the weekend again to work on it, really enjoying the project. Although my weekend social life has ceased, ha! 42 days until we take it on a USA/National Park road trip, real excited.

I put in a fantastic 3 speed fan, I hope that does the job. I am also putting a sliding window in the door. We will see I suppose, haha!
