how perfect a curve?

Postby Bigblock352 » Fri May 23, 2014 4:36 pm

This might be a dumb question but...
I'm building a rimple. All wood. No aluminum skin. How perfect does the curve have to be for the walls where the roof mounts? I'm not talking way off but maybe a 1/16 dips.

1/16th is not much. Maybe a little sanding to smooth them out?

I've been sanding to get it down to a 16th. Just didn't know if I needed to keep going. To make it perfect or was that in "tolerance"
How does everyone else make these curves? Better jigsaw skills than me I bet lol :)

BigBlock

Use a belt sander and place it on its side. Clamp it to the table and put a spacer block in front of it for the offset in sand paper height. Now you can sand up the the line in a flash.

Bend a piece of thin cardboard around the radius, you will know right away if you need to do more sanding.

Great advice. Thanks! :applause:
My idea is to get this perfect once then use that as a template for a router to make 4 exactly the same curves.

Clamp the two sides together when sanding, that way they are exactly the same.
