Hi from a newbie from Australia

Postby LISA VCM » Mon May 26, 2014 11:45 am

Hi all,

Still trying to navigate my away around the rules, how to post pics, create a gallery and the plethora of other info needed to be a fully fledged member of this forum! Give me time, I will get there! (At this point I can't even work out how to change my password) more reading to be done me thinks...

So here's my story - no, I am not a complete ditz (do you guys use that word here?) I am the editor of Vintage Caravan Magazine based in Australia and I am mad passionate keen on trailers (we call them caravans). Two years ago I bought a tiny canned ham from outside a swap meet in Reno. It is a 1949 Crown about ten feet long in full aluminum.
It has been stored in a shed in my sister's house in Oregon, which is where I am at the moment as the process of the rebuild begins... daunting seeing as she suffered some serious damage in transit from Nevada due to broken windows letting air inside her (fatal error I have made only once in my life) but I wasn't there when she was relocated so supervise and now half of her roof lining is missing... such is life! She needs a complete rebuild anyway.

Lucky for me, my fiance is a hot rodding guy and he has been out there the last couple of days, changing the axel (as she sat WAY too high!) and putting on new smaller wheels - giving her a much better stance and what he calls "an altitude adjustment"

I am looking forward to hearing more about your builds/restorations and getting sources for information and supplies that we may need, and, once she is all done, hitting the road and hopefully going on a rally or two, lots of very long road trips and hopefully meeting some of you out there!

So, that's it from me for now - I'm off to read up some more and get better acquainted with this forum!

Cheers,

Lisa :)

Well Lisa welcome to the group and yes it is a bit of a learning curve but as you have already figured out there is a lot of information here and for the most part we are all patient and willing to help.

Welcome Lisa,

Sounds like you have a good project there. You'll find excellent information for most of your questions about the forum under 'Threads about the Forum' from the board index (the main page). If not, just ask. We are here to help and watch your build :)

All the Best,

Dave

Hi all,

Thank you for the welcomes!
The 1949 Crown got some new wheels, axle and tires put on her and we towed her down to Retroluxe Vintage Trailers in California to take care of the major rot in the frame work and caving in ceiling, as she will need to be structurally sound before I go much further with her and I was worried that it may be a bit out of our league to take that part on.
Of course my fiance, being a hot rodder from way back was confident we could do it ourselves but I was not so sure we had the time to spare and was quite keen to get back to Australia as I was missing my son lots

Problem is that on the way down we found yet another trailer and ended up buying that!
It's not so tiny as our "Rosie" the Crown - this one is a 1956 Mercury, and now guess where we are? Back in Oregon about to start removing the skin to get to the timber at the back where she has had some water damage and fix all that up. Do we need this many trailers? No! We are going to work on this one to GIVE AWAY!!!

We've always talked about doing up a prize giveaway for the subscribers to my magazine and that time just ended up coming bit sooner than planned...

I WILL get around to getting the photo uploading thing happening soon but we've been on the road since I last wrote so haven't quite mastered the art of posting photos yet! I assume it is a use photo bucket and get the img thing like the forum I am on in Oz? I will endeavour to do that soon and start a Rosie gets transformed thread soon!

In the meantime you can read all about the projects I have on the go on my blog http://mydreamhomeisportable.blogspot.com/

Cheers,

Lisa :)

Hi Friends, Custom coach construction is a lost art. Please ask 1 million ?'s and give us one or two pictures of success and 10 of NOT!? You have tapped into a great resource of wisdom of every subject, just ask. Hope to see you in person soon.
Enjoy, Chris
