Mel,
eventually a load of foam like that will become my shell, this set will become the drop ceiling in my shop... if I ever find time to install it. My shop (in the background) has 10' sidewalls and in winter any heat I make goes up and warms the roof... not this winter though.

Wish I had a shop... Good to keep it warm. I've worked in cold conditions and I noticed that the quality of the work drops off dramatically! :o  :NC

well, winter caught up with me again...
I've got the LOML on board for the Wanderer build this spring however.
I made a change at work, stepped down from a high stress management position back to plain old driver for the courier service I run for.

For the moment that means a slight cut in pay, but a huge increase in quality of life and home time. I won't have to be on call 24/7 responsible to get all of the freight out the door when a contractor decides not to work. Instead I'll be doing the most profitable runs I can, and I'll make myself available for stat deliveries (both of which I used to do up until this coming thursday with the added burden of dispatch and management)

This means a slightly tighter budget, but lots more time to get shop time in once the shop thaws out. I never did get the drop ceiling put up, but the next day decent day temperature wise, I'll get out there and get as much of it slung up there as I can. I'm going to try a kickstarter campaign in a month or so to get my Artisan Cutting Boards shop in full swing. I've got several product lines in mind, and have a modest finance goal in mind, plus several goal bonuses for my backers.

Nice thing is I've got most of the tools on hand already for both Artisan Boards and the Wanderer. I'm hoping to fund the Wanderer with the Artisan Boards, then I'll use the Wanderer for out of town shows (camping nearby)

Hi gang,
figured I'd post in my own thread, though it is only a thoughts on 'big' campers...

The WW is still on hold... though there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, if I chunked down the cash for a trailer right now, I'd better get it built in a day, and move into it while the glue dries...

Today the LOML and I took a stroll through a local tourist strip... craft show, rv dealer with 8 or so units, and some ice cream before we headed for home.

I suppose the units were representative of the current marketplace in commercial units... ranging from a hybrid (hard side trailer with pop-up style beds dropping on 3 out of 4 sides) to a modern aero 5'er with several slides etc... we went through most of them, and the slides sure make oodles of space, but the fit & finish weren't all that great. I found the bedrooms claustrophobic (I'd rather have a teardrop and be cozy intentionally, vs a postage stamp sized bed and cheesy cabinets flanking it) their bathrooms were relatively large though. Materials were pretty typical... 1/4" ply over stick and staple frames... and the glue outgassing was pretty intense as well.

I'll hold off until I get my trailer built, it won't have the 'space' the commercial units have ,but it will be constructed much better, and I'll have the pride of design and build under my belt.

Ned, and yours will likely last way past the "warranty period" , something commercial builds have a tough time doing (and I now think by design) ... :o

I played that 'card' about 8 years back... built my woodshop... and I've been 'paying' for it ever since. Every so often a new tool shows up, but something as major as a trailer? yeah, that wouldn't go over well right about now.

My wife is kind of the same way about my gun collection. She's opposed and questions the justification of the cost when adding to the collection.

On the other hand, she has a strong believe that a person should get what they ask for for xmas (because of a childhood disappointment when her sister got what she had asked for and she didn't). So now I just ask for a new gun for xmas and she gets it for me. Problem solved! :R

I've been busy lately out in my woodshop, making cutting boards. Lori found an art gallery in the 'resort' town of Old Forge NY and we are now part of the Starving Artist's gallery. I had to run up there (about 3 hrs round trip) yesterday to drop off another set of boards... we sold 4 this past week  ! On my way home, I spotted a Urabus with a kayak on the roof and a blacked out little guy teardrop. I was SO ticked that I couldn't stop and bug them about their tear... I had a stat run to get to and couldn't take the time. That was the first tear I've seen this year other than a yeungling brewery display unit at a local gas station.

ummm... yeah. sometimes... I know the LOML however. As I mentioned we're starting a new 'venture' selling my end grain cutting boards at the moment. SO, unless that takes off, all capital at the moment is tied up in wood and other start up fees.
