Busted by the Doctors

Postby Kody » Sat Jun 21, 2014 5:21 am

It's all finally come to a lousy end for an indefinite period. My back has a crushed disc and I can no longer work on our T/D. The doctors have told (ordered) me to suspend all work of any form until my back gets better. All I know is that the pain radiates across my back, through both hips and down my leg. I can't walk, can't stand, can't lie down and can't sit for more than a few minutes. Sleep comes only after total exhaustion from enduring the pain.
Well that's enough of my my whinging and crying. I hope you all are doing well and enjoying your T/Ds'. I will be back here as soon as I can but it might be some months (Ugh!) before the doctors will let me. I just spent a week in hospital and that's more than enough.

Thank you everyone for the support you have given me, it's most appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your back problems. I have suffered with that as well at times and it is brutal. Take care and do what the Doctors say and hopefully you can get back to the trailer soon.

Kody,

I can relate to the pain in the back problems.
Do what the DRs say and try to let your back heal, As surgery aint no fun either.

Twenty years ago when my back got broken the pain was intense, So I know how you feel.
The pain pills only help a little bit, So find a comfortable position and relax.

Take care and heal up soon !!!

That makes my rotator cuff surgery seem like nothing. Good luck in the future.

Take good care of yourself and don't try to do too much too soon. The TD will wait. It's not going anywhere.
Meanwhile, do what the doctor tells you; stock up on good books and movies; and, pet/love your dog a lot. :)

I feel for you Kody, I was severely injured a while back and couldn't build for quite some time. I did a lot of design work and now I have several TD projects all going at the same time. I have to ask for a lot more help these days and everything I do do takes forever but at least the wheel keeps spinning forward. I think of Sharon's line and use it daily, "I think I can ,,I think I can.
Hang in there and get better soon. You can always build vicariously through me. I'll post more.
Enjoy, Chris

Kody, I think I know what you are going through. I just came off of back surgery 3 weeks back and I really believe one has to walk in the other person's shoes to really understand the pain and disruption to one's life. My pain before surgery was very Intense and debilitating. I had a bone spur on a vertebrae and a cyst against my spine removed. They were pressing against my sciatic nerve. It seems like I have done nothing for the last 6 months. But my nerve pain is all gone now and I start therapy in a week. Now I just suffer from muscle pain as I try to walk further each day. So I hope I can offer you some encouragement about things getting better one of these days. Soon I hope. But continue to do what I do.....each day I redesign and replan something for the trailer.

Best of luck in conquering your back issues. Just go on the 'semi-proverbial'
"Tear Drop Time" and the TD build will progress when you can do so. Get
healthy so you can get camping.

Cheers,

Youch, sorry to hear about that. But on the brightside you will have time for more planning and any changes you may want to make.

Sorry to hear about your back, I hope you can get better really soon. please don't go and try to do too much too soon. My friend just had a new and different type experimental surgery. It is too soon to know if it worked for her. but I have seen her suffer in pain so I am aware of the horrible time you are having. I will be praying for you :worship:

OMG, Kody, I feel for you. After laying on my back for 2 days, smearing roofing pitch on the bottom of my new teardrop, I laid in bed for 3 days with a pinched nerve, due to the fact that my 81 year old spine couldn't handle that kind of abuse anymore. My inner thigh felt like it was on fire and the front of my leg was absolutely numb. Even the bed sheets and lightweight shorts, were too much for me to handle and after a month of unbelieveable pain, Kaiser set me up with a physical therapist that got me started in the right direction. I spent 2 weeks going over there getting the 'pinched nerve treatment', which began the healing process right away. They turned me onto a great book, which I feel put me on the road to recovery. Go to the library and check it out, or buy one, it has a wealth of information. I now have the necessary exercises that I do, in order to maintain and enhance my recovering back health.

I'm not trying to promote any book sales, but honestly, this book entitled "Treat Your Own Back" by Robin McKensie, explains the necessity of maintaining the much-needed curvature in the spine, plus displays the various exercises needed to do so. This spinal curve is called the "Lodoris" and is so important to maintain, in order to promote good spine and nerve health. (that is why a lot of us old-timers hunch over and have rounded shoulders). I was instructed to always sit upright in a chair, using a soft roll of foam rubber between my beltline and the chairback, plus use it while driving the car with it in place. I don't know if this helps you, but in the very least, it is worth checking out. My back is now absolutely pain free, and without proper treatment and this, all inportant information, IRG 5 would have been out of the question for me this year. Good luck on your quest to regaining your back and leg health, that kind of pain is almost unbearable, I know, since I have only experienced only a portion of what you are going through. Hang in there! I'm sure that proper rest and following the doctor's instructions, will get you back on the right track. Teardrop building can wait.

8) ;) The So Calif old-timer, planning on IRG 14, 18 years from now, when I am 100 :-) (gotta think positively)_

I know your pain, Kody. Five years ago I couldn't move. my back hurt so bad that the strongest pain killers barely did anything. I had surgery and things felt better, but there was a road to recovery that had to be walked. Today, I have no back pain and do pretty much what I want.

Just remember, this is not the end. You will recover and be back on your feet. I know it seems like the end now, but it isn't!

Sorry to hear that. Healing is number one now. Be strong and put that strength into doing what you can to heal quickly. Mostly that is being patient with not doing! God Bless
