Hello, We are getting ready to lay down our final exterior wood for the roof and sides. We are using thin marine grade plywood and will scribe all joins to blend the seams. I would like to get creative with the final look and love the look of the light bare wood combined with a dark stain in a swirl or wave across the sides. My question is,... because wood soaks in the stain, how do you keep it from spreading from one area into another? In other words, how can I keep the dark stain from running into the bare wood, when I apply it? We plan on using west system epoxy over the whole unit, (then a coat of two of urethane over that for UV protection). Can I apply a thin coat of epoxy, then apply a coat of water based stain, and then another coat of epoxy over it all to achieve this look or is there a way to stain on bare wood without one running into another.
Also, one more question, should we glue down the marine ply to the luan with wood glue or use epoxy for that as well? What has the best hold?
Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
