Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

The jacks are not designed with removal in mind. There is a collar that is meant to be welded to the frame or whatever. I suppose if a pipe can be found that can be inserted into the inside of the collar one could possibly drill a hole through to insert a hitch pin to keep the jack attached and non rotating. That's a few IF's that have to be met or worked around. It is not an out of the box ready to go thing though.

The jacks do remove. I talked to a woman at e trailer and she said that they are removable. If you go to the reviews page for the jacks you can see pictures of the jacks being removed off a trailer that the guy uses to transport a tractor. More than I need but I like he design.

Got some parts today, so I did a little mock up. My wheel adapters showed up today so I got one installed and threw on my WJ spare put a jack under the other side of the axle to get and idea of how she would sit. She looks better than I thought. I have 15 1/2" to the bottom of the axle for ground clearance, the rest is roughly 26" with my semi bald spare. It will be approximately 5" higher than the rack on the WJ in the end. I also picked up a cabinet that was supposed to be for the rear door for the galley but with the height I may need to rethink it. At least the cabinet was free so no harm no foul. Here are a few pics of today's progress.

A quick mock up of the door location. It needs to move up about 3" but this was good enough for an idea. We're going to need a step, it's kinda high. Maybe I can pick up an inflatable airplane emergency slide, just in case. :D

TucsonWJ, Howdy;

Looks good from here ...
My personal preference would be to move the door a few (2 or 3), inches away from the fender.
Helps prevent nicks and cuts along the leg bones. Like I said, personal preference.

That was just a very rough mock up, it will probably move up about 3"-4".The fenders as they sit are going to be removed. They are going to be full running boards with incorporated fenders made from 1" tube.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with vinyl skinning vs paint? I'm looking to do one or the other, I just wanted to know your pro's or con's to both. I'm leaning toward the skin for durability and possible graphic choices but I may be wrong. Please give me your experiences with either method.

So the trailer has to leave the house for a bit so I can use the garage to work on some home projects. I also need to gather some more parts and pieces to move forward. So I had some time at work today and sketched up a possible wiring setup for the trailer. Please take a look at it and let me know your thoughts and opinions. This is my first time wiring a trailer so I was trying to keep it simple.

You got any more pics and info on your spring over conversion and your wheel adapters?

Ya can you take some more pics of it? Did you just use the same u bolts and just move the axel from having the spring under to having it over?

I can give you the info that I know. For my axle flip, I didn't do it the correct way for now. I simply took the axel that had the built in camber or bend to it and flipped it to the bottom so the bend faces down. I know that's not the 100% correct way to do it but I plan on replacing it with an axle with brakes in the future. As it is now it still rolls great, tracks perfectly straight at 75mph with a decent cross wind. As for tire wear I don't know, I need to pick up a couple wheels and tires to match the WJ (Grand Cherokee) and that's a little pricey so it will come in a few weeks. The lug pattern on the trailer was 5x4.5, the Jeep was 5x5. I needed a inch or so to clear the backspacing of my wheels so I went with a pair of adapters from Precision European Motorwerks off of amazon. That's all that has gone into it so far so let me know if I can help with any pictures.

Her you go CHR, here are a few pictures of the axle flip and the wheel adapters.
Here is the axle flipped under the spring, there is a locating pin on the top of the spring that you need to line up to get it
In the correct position. I'm not sure if they all have one top and bottom of the spring but mine did.

Image

In his picture you can kinda see the slight bend in the axle that should be bent upward, when you flip it you can re weld a new pair to the correct side. I however did not do that. I'm not sure that I am going to, I may leave it till I upgrade to a axle with brakes. Not sure yet.

Image

Here is a picture of he wheel adapters top and bottom. I don't have any pictures of them on, I'm not going to install them till I have the wheels and tires ready to install. You want to use thread locker on them and torque them correctly so I don't want to be taking them on and off after I install them.

Image

Hope the pictures helped.
