new tires put on the rims last night. little bit bigger than the stock ones on the trailer! since I purchased a set of 4 rims (due to the seller not wanting to be stuck with just two as I only needed two) I figured I would bring one extra to see if they by chance had a decent used tire they could toss on that rim. well they did. they had a NEAR matching tire with only 100miles on that they sold for 50$, balanced and mounted. plus I got a discount rebate on the two new tires so essentially got 3 tires for the price of two. cant beat that!
The whole concept here being that with matching tires and wheels on the trailer I will only have one spare tire between the truck and the trailer (one that already lives under my truck). but now if I take the trailer out with the buddies truck or girlfriends pathfinder we can toss the spare spare and have a back up.
now if only those adapters will show up to continue progress....

Over the weekend took some time to fit up the rubber dampers and the curb side fender. couple pictures here of the progress, still waiting for the wheel adapters so I just had the wheels/tires mock up in place while the trailer was set on a couple jack stands under the axle (to make sure the suspension was compressed). fabricated a bracket for mounting the tool box/fender. turned out very solid! hopefully I will get the drivers side done next weekend, unfortunately it took the better part of a day scheming up how to mount the one, so hopefully the second one will got a bit quicker now that I have all the material, dimensions and hardware.

here is the rubber damper thing. made a couple angle brackets that then face weld to the inside of the trailer frame. (HATE welding upside down/overhead/under trailers!) we shall see how it rides once we get rolling again, it might be too tall for such a set up, if that is the case I have a plan to either get longer shackles to move the springs away from the damper or cut down the rubber damper. we shall see.

here is the bracket I made up to mount the tool box/fender. the angle brackets are 1/4" steel. the one towards the back of the trailer had to be heated up with my cutting torch to twist the angle to match the slope of the tool box. only took two tries. painted the whole thing and found some nice square plastic tube caps for the ends of the square tube to give it a pretty clean look.

here it is all fitted up. the lower inner radius fender is not attached yet, just sitting in place but gives you the idea. I want to wait until I get the tires mounted on the adapters so I can dial in the in/out dimension to just cover the outter most point of the tire. up until this point I wasn't too sure how this was going to all turn out, but with it all in place I am really liking it.

after tinkering around a bit with the inner/lower fender I have decided to have a shop bend me up a "jeep style" fender that will match the shape of the tool box above it and mirror that shape to the front. something was just not sitting right with the "curve" shape of the stock fenders under the angle shapes from the tool box. having them made up with 1/8" aluminum diamond plate and should be ready before the weekend , hopefully! here is a VERY rough concept sketch:

fab shop had my fenders ready late Friday afternoon so I proceeded with installation of those over the weekend. both sides are now complete and STILL waiting for my wheel adapters. so the wheels/tires are sort of just sitting in the wheel well right now but gets you the idea. hopefully in the next few days those adapters show up so I can get this thing out on a test drive.

I finally got the right adapters and slapped the wheels/tires on! very pleased how it all turned out. heading on a camping trip this weekend so we will see how it tracks and handles bumpers with the new tires/suspension.

davidshourd, Howdy;

Very well done! Even appears that the tops of the
fender boxes are on the same level as the shiney
part on the front ... gives it the "It was designed
this way appearance". Very well done ... :thumbsup: , :thumbsup:

well after a wet and bumpy weekend on the road camping with the trailer I am happy to report everything held up great. I had my 750cc ATV in the trailer, JUST perfect fit on width and length. but added a good amount of weight to the trailer. put about 600 miles on the trailer, with about 100 of those being on very rough roads. Steep and narrow too. terrified of oncoming traffic! outside of Leavenworth Washington. the new suspension seemed to make a good difference on the rough roads. I wish I would have taken more pictures of the roads!

davidshourd, Howdy;

Good to hear that everything worked the way it was supposed to.
I take it there were no surprises, which is also good...
Just something about being able to look down on the tops of
clouds that just makes one feel ... good about life in general...
Thanks for the view.
