What type/thickness mattress do you use

Just wondering what your mattress style and thickness preferences are.
There are plenty avaliable here in the 200 mm or 8 inch range but I'm mind full of taking up to much interior hight

I played around with several configurations .. what works for my wife and myself is a 8"memory mattress with a futon mattress on top of it.. we found that memory foam by themselves just don't breathe well enough . ours are queen size..

started with the W-M 4 inch Memory foam (2 inch foam/2 inch rubber) than added 2 half inch layers of the rubber floor pads which if needed would also work for laying on for road fixes/kneeling pads if needed. Have since added another W-M memory foam pad 1.5 thick for a total of 5.5 inches of foam + 1 inch rubber. Seems to be OK now, not so much rolling any longer in the nite anymore. Probably should have just had a real mattress made to begin with looking at what it has all cost so far.

That's part of my concern, ending up paying to much after experimenting and still ending up around 8 inch thick.
How do you find the head room sitting up with 8 inch mattress and what's your door hight like with this? Cheers dale

Mine is 8" and works great. First one was 5"...not enough.

5" foam with 1.5" memory foam topper. I usually sleep on top of the sleeping bag in the summer and it works fine.

My teardrop has a 5" medium density foam pad mattress and I've been relatively happy with it even for extended (3-week) trips. My standy has a 3" memory foam topper bonded to a 5" foam pad and I like it much better. So much so that I'm going to have one made like it for my home bedroom.

We got 5 inch foam, cut for us, from the local fabric supply store ( Joann's) 2 pieces, 2 feet wide, 6 Feet long. We love it. Better than the "real" bed in the house. With the shape (Grueman) of our trailer, the height actually raises me up that I gain a few inches length. Plus, setting in the door....best chair in the place! Sorry, no visual, but looking at that profile, you'd see.

Mine is only four inch and I get a better night sleep on it than I do with my fancy mattress at home. Longest I ve ever slept on it was five nights in below freezing temps during hunting season. Never bottomed out or felt cold from below. I rarely use a slepping bag just sheets and a couple of blankets.

We bought our plain Queen size Verlo mattress from our teardrop manufacturer (TCTeardrops) and just love it. Super comfortable, very well made and it can be folded for removal from the trailer. I bought a moisture resistant mattress cover (from another source), and made a heavy denim covering to place over that. We use a folded out sleeping bag and a comforter for the bedding. Everything easily machine washable. The following info is from TCT's website. There just happens to be a Verlo factory store in the same town and this is what TCT charges for these---specially made for their teardrops. There's other Verlo factory stores in other states.

I forgot to add----

Under the mattress is a piece of white, sturdy Styrofoam, about 2 inches high---to raise the mattress up off the floor. I was having trouble getting in and out of the trailer---the bottom door frame was putting bruises on the back of my knees as I struggled to get out the door. Todd from TCT offered to put the Styrofoam under the mattress---problem solved!

This has turned out to be a great thread and provided alot of ideas sinarios.
I'm gonna get a little off topic but still on the same trail so to speak....it's been mentioned that mattress hight in relation to door hight and I'm also mind full of headroom.
I cut out my sidewalls today following the generic benroy plans except mine is a fair bit longer and wider so I have no issue with side intrusion from wheel arches but the benroy plans say 2x1 floor joists where I've gone for 35mm witch is just under 1 and a half.
So 150mm or 6 inch is the hight from the sheet bottom to the door cut out....is this what you've used and does it work in relation to the mattress.2nd point is with the roof spars around the same thickness and 5 to 8 inch matteress how's the headroom sitting up

I had a door jam of 4" in one td and went with an 8" memory foam.

The other had a 3" jam so I went with a 6" mattress.

Both gave me a great night sleep. Ordered through Walmart with free shipping to either home or store.

So ideal you recon jam hight half the matteress thickness?
I'd guess the door jam dosn't cut into your legs to much getting in and out
