air conditioners?

Postby martymcfly » Thu Dec 11, 2014 1:24 pm

I have only seen people use window ac in their teardrops. Why haven't I seen anybody use one of these? http://www.compactappliance.com/EdgeSta ... fgodkkkAHQ Could you run the big hose out the floor? Maybe use pvc with a screw cap or something when not in use? Easily remove when you don't need it? Is it because this style costs a little more?

That's a lot more BTU's than you need, the small 4k window units are really too much.

There is, for a ton of money, there are marine units, and also for $$$ small units meant for 18 wheeler cabs. It is all about what you want to spend.

Hi, I'm new here , but have been building a "standy" which I started last Spring. It's built, waiting for Spring to come, but still needs final finish, galley and trim. I purchased ClimateRight's 2500 btu air conditioner/heat pump when they became available last May. I know it's very expensive, but with the heat pump feature I figure it solves two problems at once. It will be mounted at the front of the camper in a storage box.

Also, the 2500 btu capacity of the air conditioner means the unit should run efficiently, drying out the camper without excessive cooling.

I've been a long time lurker and have learned a ton following everyone's builds! 8)

Mr McFly. The air conditioner in your first post really is a flop any where you put it. We bought one and used it on a boat when they first came out and found that the hose you see really radiates more heat than the air conditioner part can over come on a hot day. Please don't buy one.

I used a small 4000 btu room size ac on my weekender and use a small ceramic heater for heat. Less money outlay and simple.
