Wall edge rabbiting

Some build photos have a lip routed along the Wall roof edge but not all. I plan to do this for mine. Any considerations on how deep is the rabbit should be? Does the inside ceiling rest on the lip then the spars spaced out on top of that then the outside roof? My design is woody but haven't decided on the aluminum or wooden roof yet. Thanks

Personally I wouldn't go any deeper than 1/4 inch on 3/4 sidewalls

I use the sandwich method of wall building and the shelf the ceiling fits on is the depth of the wall minus the 1/4" plywood that is the outside sheathing.



And yep, the ceiling sits on the ledge.

Yes and yes*. I wish my English tests were that easy back in high school.

*Actually the last photo is of a 4x8 I built using the sandwiched construction that uitlizes skeletonized sheet of 1/2" AC for the guts of each wall (CDX plywood too junky for this). I find this method to be quicker than 1x4"s but more expensive, especially if you're building a 10' long teardrop, since you need three sheets of plywood. Here's it's "guts."
