Where's the Serial Number - '46 - '48 Modernaire Kit

Postby gorgerider » Tue Feb 03, 2015 1:36 pm

I'm having trouble finding the serial number and searches on the site don't yield results. The tongue doesn't seem to have one - the only number I find is one associated with the hitch receiver itself. It doesn't look like it would apply to the trailer as a whole. Any clues as to where to look? I need to have it inspected and titled in order to put it on the road.

Thanks.

You may not find one, back in the days of old serial numbers were not as critical as today's world and vanished with a simple tongue replacement or extension.

I have an old 1947 Spen Jeep trailer that I'll be damn'd if I can find the serial number on it anywhere, I have looked all over the thing and it just is not there and I do not believe that anything has been changed or if it was they did a mighty fine job of making it look factory.

To the best of my knowledge, National Trailer Stores - NTS (the source for all Cubs, Modernistics, & Modernaires, whether in kit form or finished) never stamped serial numbers anywhere on their products. A few of the small companies that built & marketed their kits, like Marvel/Dwyer, have been known to stamp their own serial numbers, but I have no idea as to where to tell you to look. In states like California, the DMV will assign and affix their own serial/registration numbers if there are none already on the trailer, and depending on the locale of the particular office (rural or urban), that could be a real PITA or easy-peasy ... ;) ...!

Good Luck, and as always ...

Thanks, Guys. I'll be getting my stamp set out today and heading to the DMV for the too expensive paperwork portion of our program.

Search the DMV website for the definitionof a "camp trailer". I pasted the link but don't know if it will work.
