foam wall attachment

I am getting very close to starting my first build. I am have read a lot of the threads here and I think that I am going with a foamie. I have a question that I haven't found the answer to yet. Are the walls just glued to the floor or is there some other fastener used? is gorilla glue the glue to use for the wall-floor seam?

I can tell you I used gorilla glue. But my floor is 1/2 ply and applied 1.5" foam. I left a ledge to set the wall on and glued the bottom and 1.5" up the side to the floor... I epoxied a 8" strip 4 inches under the floor then glued it to the outside of my side. The canvas total outside was applied over this and glued to it..... It worked fine on a 1600 mile trip and locally so far.

During my rebuild I had to rip up the sides, and after the sawing and pulling the canvas out.....glued with TBII that worked but taking it apart left gaps and holes along the bottom so we used Great stuff. for mine we used the yellow window and door. It works great. no problem. I took the canvas and pulled it under the wood and with TBII glued it down and stapled it down too. after it dried I coated the underside with glidden gripper three times and a coat of the acrillic trailer house roof coating without aluminum. I repainted the sides with gripper and put a final coat of exterior latex on top. and yes it holds down just fine.

For mine they were just glued to the deck for initial construction. I did crawl under and run a few long drywall screws in to help with the clamping of the foam to the wood. Gorilla glue needs clamping or it will push the foam apart. I also used a big long ratchet strap (or two) lengthwise over the wall edge to help keep it held down.

Once I had my roof on and I was starting my covering process i took 6" wide bias strips of my covering fabric and put reinforcing strips on the inside and outside to make sure the joints were all closed up and there was an extra layer of fabric for sheer strength. You can see them inside and out in this picture.

MP, Glue and Reinforcing strips will do it .... It’s all part of the Foamie’ System ..... the Outer skin (fabric/canvas) holds it all together , much like a sock ...

Whatever glue you have will work as it will be stronger than the foam itself ... and yes Gorilla glue or any expanding foam tends to “grow” .. throwing off your measurements, and then, that can be allowed for .. nothing is critical ...

GPW is right. It all works together. I set my wall on the edge of the floor, epoxied that edge to the floor and wrapped a 6 inch wide piece of fiberglass under the floor and up the exterior of the wall, running the entire length of the wall and epoxied that in place. If you notice the skirts at the bottom of the wall of the Road Foamie, that just serves to hide that strip of fiberglass although if I had the time and talent I could have probably have faired it into place. Literally thousands of mile of use and no sign of deterioration at all. Built to Last!!!

Mel , you are “living proof” that the Foamie’ System really works , and BETTER than a Lot of other things ... And looks Good too !!!

MP , just glue the foam to the floor and you’ll be fine !!! Make sure the floor is Flat before you glue the foam down ... less gaps that way .... a simple “test fit” confirms the compatibility before gluing . If you find the trailer floor is wavy (it happens) , then you can “scribe” the bottom of the foam wall and just trim to fit the floor exact . All Very easy with Foam ...
(Hint:) JMHO , Foam is so easy to work with , it makes sense to take the time and make it carefully and accurately so the surfaces fit as best you can (measuring twice! ) , still not that critical , but it does make it NICE , and considering the Foamie' trailer will likely survive and be useful for your Lifetime , and possibly more, do your best work now and you won’t have to do much maintenance in the future, it will always be ready to go camping ...
