Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

side to side weight

Postby Getting away with it » Sun Apr 12, 2015 9:06 pm

Does anyone know of a site explains the effects of unbalanced side to side loading? How much is too much, how does it change the handling of the trailer? A 7x12 cargo trailer 4 to 5000 lb weight (7000 cap) about 400 lb imbalance.

Thanks,
Mike

My off-the-cuff guess is that 400 lbs will make no difference what-so-ever in a trailer that big. If you find a site with good information on trailer balance and/or weight distribution, please share it with us.

I doubt it will affect anything as long as your tongue weight ratio is still right. Just make sure not to overload one side. For example, if your trailer axle is rated for 3500lbs, don't put more than half of the rated weigh distributed at one side.
