New builder

Postby low-n-slow » Thu Apr 16, 2015 2:29 pm

Hello all, I have been lurking for a little while and have been wanting to do a build. I have decided on using the Generic Benroy design and make a 5x10. I will be building my own trailer in a few days. I am still trying to decide on what I want for a cabinet/kitchen design as well as the living compartment. I will continue to look on here and scab some ideas from other members.

Hey Low-n-slow, My second build is going to be a 5x10 Gen Ben with a drop floor. I drew up plans and shared on the chassy and frame section under a drop floor tab. There is good discussion about drop floors in general on that thread. The galley and cabin space are all personal choice but leave enough room for your ice chest. You'll find a ton of great ideas here.
Enjoy, Chris

Hi and welcome! The folks here are wonderful and an amazing wealth of knowledge and experience.

A word of warning, I also think these things are addictive. Yep, I said it. You start building your first and while not even close to finished, you start thinking about your second. It goes downhill from there. Soon you'll find yourself standing on a dark street corner "Hey buddy, got a spare hurricane hinge for an old builder? " "I don't care if we have 3 kids, I know I can build it smaller and lighter! They'll just have to squeeze in." " I just need one more trailer and I promise I'll quit"

:D

Dave, it's funny that you say that, cause I am already planning for my next one.

Low:

Welcome. Make sure you take a peak at Alaska Benroy's build. viewtopic.php?f=50&t=61738

We had a 4x10 for many-many years until my wife and I ran across a 5x10 in the local grocery store parking lot and got a tour. A foot of width is a big deal. I was ordering hardware for ours the following week. I like a "working galley" that's simple and effeicient. I stole the concept from our first (commercial built "Hunter").

But you'll find lots of galley pics on this forum. They are ALL great. I swear by the 7 gallong Reliance water jugs at the bottom. Pull 'em out over the lip and you've got running water.

Staggered shelves with 3" lips on the rear interior:

And slider storage with a shelf at the head:

Enjoy your build and happy trails.

Tony,

I really like that setup you have there. I actually really liked the profile of yours when I was just lurking. I appreciate the response on here from everyone.

Now if I can figure out the posting of pictures. Seems every forum is different on this. Do I need to have a smugmug or photobucket account in order to post pics?

So far I have the steel for the frame, the axle and one leaf spring. Tractor Supply only carriers limited springs apparently, so I have to wait to get the next one.
