Roof A/C install

Postby gisclair615 » Wed May 06, 2015 6:27 am

How are you guys bracing your roof for A/C install? Would I be ok with just adding 1" X 1" square tubing to box in the roof vent area? My a/c is a Coleman Mach 8 low profile and weighs around 90 lbs. This is how my roof beams are now.

Ordered mine beefed up from the factory........they doubled the transverse supports at the location (parallel to the originals, touching, welded together) then place the 2 short pieces perpendicular to make the vent space.

Ordered mine from the factory with the a/c support. It was done this same way.

Do you have any pics of the way it's done? I think I'm understanding how it's set up.

Thanks for the photo. I'll just copy this with 1" x 1" square tubing. Thanks!

Got it braced and installed. Welded some 1" x 1" square tubing. It's very sturdy and strong

How do you like the mach 8? its on my short list for A/c's at this point. Have/can you measure the amp draw for me by chance? I'm curious if it aligns with the published specs or is lower (as I've read elsewhere).

Any other issues or complaints with the install?

I'm really pleased with it. I didn't think it would cool as good as it does being mine is only. 9200BTU. I only insulated with 3/4 foam board and it's been high 80's and upper 90's with high humidity and it freezes my trailer out during the day. At night it's on low with thermostat halfway. I don't have an amp meter to measure amp draw but I have a off brand 3k generator inverter and it doesn't struggle at all to run the a/c and fridge. Install was very easy and straight forward.

Welded in the 4 roof bows i bought online.
Pictures are deceiving, but I added two roof bows front and two behind the AC hole.
Used 1/4 inch flat bar to tie them together.

I can now do pullups on the bars and the roof doesn't move.
By pull ups I mean hanging there flailing like a fish...
