I ran into one of "us" today.

Postby tony.latham » Mon Aug 03, 2015 11:05 pm

I made a run to town today and was driving past the Forest Service office (in Salmon, Idaho) and noticed a small silver SUV hitched to a tiny standie that was parked. No doubt a DIY.

I turned around and started a drive by. If it looked interesting, I thought I'd stop and ask for a tour.

There was no front plate on the tow vehicle. A gray bearded guy was in the driver's seat. His head was down and he looked like he was studying a map or reading his email. I looked at his trailer: White fiberglassed wood. Angular with good wind resistance. Clean and well built. Probably painted with a marine enamel.

It dawned on me that it was familiar. I checked the back plate and sure enough: Florida. I'd PM'd this guy 'cause I'd made him for a boat builder while reading about his trailer build.

I had to tap my knuckles on his hood to get his attention. He rolled down his window and I introduced myself. Indeed, it was TreeRog. (Here's his build log: viewtopic.php?t=63630)

He's soloing from Florida to Canada. Running from hurricane season. We had a nice chat and I got a look into his sailboat-like trailer. He was headed to the Crater's of the Moon. I encouraged him to take a long-cut through Stanley Basin.

Tony

p.s. We shoulda done a "selfie." But this is from his album:

Hi Tony
We were over towards Eastern Washington yesterday and ahad two reported sightings of a Jeep Cj5 pulling a wonderful homebuilt Teardrop???? No one seemed to have pictures but he was reported at Bonaparte Lake, Lake Cerlew SP, and Colville Wa. at a coffee house.....on his way to Idaho?????
Everyone please keep your eyes open for this guy from Washington heading east.
Please post a picture or get him in touch with me, if you see him.
We did encounter two teardrops today also on our way back accross Hwy 20.
One from Boise (Camp Inn), and on from Tacoma?? (2005 4x7 Little Guy).
Just got home from a 7 day 6 night trip with Miss Piggy.
Good roads

PS
Where is this Florida Guy heading in Canada? And does anyone have contact info for him??

Good call on the Stanley basin. That is God's country for sure. I have a buddy with 160 acres and a cabin just outside of Stanley. I spend all the time that I can up there during the summer months.
