Galley? There's going to be a galley? Oh yea, I'll build a piece of furniture which I'll slide in and attach to the floor. It'll probably slide in the door and get pushed rearward, and it might have to be built in 2 pieces! :?

Wowers, I'll probably never be able to build that fast again!

Weight mostly. I want to be able to make mad dashes across the country, and didn't want to haul around a heavy trailer. Plus I wanted a quick build this time, AND I wanted to try foam one more time.

Came home tonight, and decided to play on the foamie, because we couldn't do anything yesterday.

So we skinned another section of the ceiling

and trimmed the outside edges, the window and roof vent hole

I also put putty in the holes in the side of the hatch, and the side of the body. I'm really curious to see how it sands out of canvas. :frightened:

That's enough for one night. I really should go out and try sanding, but I've run out of time... and it started raining...

Mike...

P.S. I'm thinking about de-rating the axle now... removing 1 leaf should do it, right? I'm thinking the trailer will be around 500 pounds.

P.P.S. Just double checking my schedule... Here's what's on the agenda for this weekend...

Aug 15 & 16
Canvas Body

We are doing good for that item. I'm hoping to get some TBII on there as well, and maybe with a little luck, some garage floor paint! :NC

Looking really good Mike. Can't wait to see it in person.

Honestly after seeing all of these wonderful foamie builds, I just can't imagine wanting to build any other way. They're light, durable, weatherproof (if built right), and the styles are limited only by the imagination. The ONLY reason I could see wanting to build with wood is to make a "pretty" build. But the headaches that go along with that just don't add up for me.

In fact with a little more effort these really can be pretty. I keep looking at AKSNOWRYDER's Pico Light Foam build and that turned out beautiful....like it came off of the show room floor. 8) In fact my first build will be based off of that one...except slightly bigger.

Well done all and thanks for being the leaders in the foamie revolution.

You have a lot of patience as showing in the details. I would like to know what the ROCKHOPPER weighed. I like your design and could not find the total weight in your writings.

Hi Mike,
Your build is looking great ! Glad to see you working in foam again. :D
I am curious to see if you end up at 500 lbs....
I'm thinking it will heavier than that, based on the Big Pink weight. I know I have a lot of heavy stuff in it, (fridge, AC, etc), but I think you'll be closer to 650 lbs.

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if that gray garage floor paint is really the right color for this. Maybe a silver metallic to match the TV would be better? Any idea where I can get a silver metallic paint that would work on the outside of this?

A Silver Metallic ENAMEL would likely work over Foam , the enamel reducer doesn’t seem to bother the foam ... (as always test on scrap first) ... ;)

I’d think the old Aluminum paint would be Good (enamel) as it would look like the vintage trailers , and blend in , providing a real metal protective layer from UV , and no one even guessing it was a Foamie ... 8) :D I love the old look, Silver with a red stripe ... perfect for TD, and easy ... 8)

Mike after doing a lot of test with combinations of gripper and canvas and exterior paint. I decided to give my next one a thick coat of gripper then sand then another coat sand then exterior paint. I really like the way that test turned out. You want it nice for the wife. ;)

Here's a better shot of hatch v 1.0

Image

And here's a better shot of the hatch closed... but alas, the first time I dropped the hatch, all the spackling came flying out of the joints. So I've filled the joints with gg, and plan on sanding it first thing in the morning.
