Hello from northwestern Missouri

Postby roberts » Sun Aug 30, 2015 8:25 am

I've been browsing for over a year now. I started when I was still in the Army at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Just a few months ago I was showing my wife Shaun a TD I really liked, and to my surprise she was all for it. The more I showed her stuff and told her my ideas the more she was getting into the idea of building one. She starting looking at utility trailers differently. We had an opportunity to help an elderly couple with cleaning up there home for them. I notice a couple of trailers out the back of they house and asked him about them. I told him what I wanted to do with. He said you don't want them and I was thinking yes I do. He lives on 230+ acres. He told us to get in his jeep and gave us a tour of his property. He showed me a 10' x 6' enclosed trailer. We are the proud owners of that trailers. I ran out and bought graph paper and started designing my trailer.
I am doing good on my design except for the bunk above the queen bed and table. I just can't figure out what to do with the board for storing it when she isn't sleeping in the bed. It's going to have a refrigerator, sink, A/C, and a toilet. Just for the middle of the night or first thing in the morning when I've got to go. It going to have bamboo flooring and counter top. It looks good and cheap. I am going with wood siding because the siding on it now is kind of beat up, and keeping the tin roof because of the rounded top. I just started working in a cabinet shop doing the doors how convenient. :D I got a couple of side jobs I have to finish first and a couple on Shaun's honey do list. The only thing I've been reading and rereading is the electric part of a trailer. It seems to baffle a lot of people. I think I have a plan for it now. I will put it out there when I get to that point of the build.

Thanks for reading,
Greg & Shaun

First off, from one vet to another...Thank You for your service.
Sounds like you have a good start on your build, have you tried working in SketchUp? It's a great place to play around with different layout ideas, like your table issue.

Thanks and thank you for your service. I looked at skeachup but I just never downloaded it. I will give it a try it's got to be better than my box trailer with graph paper.

Hi Greg thanks for your service also. We're almost neighbors. It sounds like you have a great start to your trailer. I'll be looking forward to watching your build. Maybe we'll meet up camping some where.

Thank you Gary. I hoping by mid September to start tearing off the old panles. Later after my grandson's soccer practice I am going to down load stetch up. I hope it won't be to hard to figure out. I just can't wait to get started. It's just looks at me everyday and is saying start on me already.

Side jobs stinks now,

It is pretty user friendly compared to a lot of CAD type programs. They have plenty of instructional videos, you can get to those here: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=49233 And yeah, it seriously beats the box on graph paper

Thanks corymike, I've watched the videos. The problem I am having is I just bought a Macbook Air and I can't figure how open my downloads. Mac is all new to me. I went with Mac because I was tired of viruses. I have a desktop but my Mac is also like my tablet. It goes everywhere with me and it would be nice to have an idea and just add it to sketchup.

Sorry brother, Mac is outside of my skill set. Closest I come there is replacing screens or other components on iPads/iPhones. If you went the Best Buy route you can always go see their Geek Squad. I know they have been really great and very patient in teaching my aged mother how to use her new Windows tablet PC.
