But do you think that getting in and out is going to be a major problem? If that's the case, a cosmetic solution won't cut it.

That is cool.....I was just thinking of a cutout - half like circle near the axle part to the template and then lower the sides ..
Not much left on inside height then ? Or should we laminate plywood on to the existing ply to add height lost from dropping?
