Weighing the teardrop

Postby Cosmo » Mon Oct 19, 2015 8:59 am

I am located in NY NJ area. I would like to weigh the trailer. Can I pull into a highway truck weigh station - weight the car and trailer, then unhitch and weigh just the car to figure out the weight?

Or are the weigh stations for trucks only?

Any other suggestions on ways to weigh the trailer?

Thanks
Cosmo

Out in Central California we are a very agriculture heavy area and we have privately owned truck scales (open to the public) everywhere so it's not really a problem getting it done.

Not sure of your area, but I think if I was to pull into one of those highway scales run by the CHP that they would run me off. :NC

Probably at a "private" scales its would be ok.... The will do most anything for money (yes many weigh stations have fees)... IF its a safety station along highway run by local gendarmes or DOT probably not... Look at truck stops and other places that advertise "public scales".... I can actually get weight done at local "county dump" (sanitary land fill)...

This

I went to a truck stop nearby with a CAT scale. They would not let me unhook the trailer on the scale so I weighed the car and trailer, pulled off and unhooked the trailer and then pulled the car back on to weigh. The difference was trailer weight.

I was not heavy enough(680) to trip CAT scales, finally went to local landscape supply store, rocks, mulch, ect... They weighed no charge, after the full tour. Coyote
