Camping at its best. It's a cross between tent camping, and Rving (or those big boxy trailers.)

You get all the light and fast nature of a tent, while not having to sleep on the ground and unpacking dozens of boxes of supplies at each stop.

The only thing an RV gives you is your own toilet and shower, and maybe a little room for indoor activity when the weather is extreme....but it costs me 4 mph to use my "light and fast" to relocate with ease or expense of driving a vehicle that gets 8 mpg

Most of the time I say its...

-----
Sort of like tent camping, in that you can go anywhere, you don't need a big truck to pull it, and you spend a lot of time outdoors. It has everything over tent camping though in that your setup/tear down is MUCH less and much quicker, your convenience and comfort is much greater. A real bed, real doors, electric lights, a seriously weatherproof hard shell that is insulated, surprisingly sound proof, and comfortable. Noisy neighbors? No issues. 20MPH winds, 40+ degree temp change, and throw some rain on top? No worries. The best part though is how everything is incredibly easy...

How easy it is is the most remarkable thing to me at least. Being a lifetime backpacker and car camping with the family I'm used to a fair amount of prep/tear down at any campsite. Simply not having to setup a tent, tear it back down, blow up air mattresses, setup the stove on a picnic table, find a place for the water jug, having no need to keep getting storage tubs out of the car and put them back, its amazing to me how easy the teardrop is.

Even the packing to go is minimal. We keep it setup, cooler is in the back, utensils etc all set to go. EZ-UP is stored inside with some folding chairs, blankets, pillows, and the bed is already made. Lights and other handy items are in a tub inside, you just pack your clothes, stop by the super market on the way out of town to stock up on food/ice and hit the road.

Makes it a lot less of "Should we go somewhere this weekend?" and more of "Where are we going this weekend?"

Most people "get it".
I did have a guy in a monster six figure RV asking me where the toilet, shower and other stuff was.
I just told him my teardrop is paid for and he suddenly became very quiet.

That is a great explanation of what a teardrop trailer is.

On a month long trip this spring, spending lots of time in my kitchen and living room, I observed the first theorem of camping - The bigger the RV, the less likely you are to ever see anybody outside of it.

Slow Cowboy, this was a great question to ask. I love all these answers. I usually do hand signals to show the shape of the teardrop and then tell them it's a 1940s style camper and they usually get that. A few years ago at a gathering, a guy stopped to chat and asked if he was in land of the Lilliputians. I cracked up. And of course folks always ask "Do you sleep in that?" I love all the creative builds folks think up. Teardrops are all sizes and styles these days!
