Help I need a TINY interior light with switch (12v)

Postby SPLAT » Wed Feb 10, 2016 7:30 pm

The main dome lights are just a little out of reach when you are in bed so I thought I would install a couple small reading lights with easy access and mounted them at the front corners of the teardrop... The picture below is the light I bought and it is JUNK

I picked out a set that seemed small enough, however they were still kind of in the way. One never worked and the other one burned out after a few on and off cycles.
I have scoured the internet and found nothing that looks decent.

Does anyone know of a small 12v light with a switch that would would work well for this idea? Wish I could find a little surface mount light.

Probably many other good alternatives.
I have a pair of lights very similar to this light. Mine only draws 150MA on high and 90MA on low.
This is not the exact light but it looks similar. I like mine very much. I did a search on Amavon for 12V LED wall lamp and a number of them popped up

I've been using these in my teardrops and they do a decent job of lighting.
Even though they have built in switches I install a built out 12 volt switch on the wall so we don't have to reach up to the ceiling to operate them.
I have to build switch boxes since my walls are only 7/8" thick and the connections for the switches protrude out the rear.

They have a swivel head so you can set them to where they'll illuminate the best for your needs.
My old supplier is no longer in business so if these interest you, their available here and more choices here.
They will accept LED bulbs if you like.

So far that is at the top of my list! I can't believe how many searches I made and that fixture never came up!
Thanks :wine:

I found them by searching for 12 volt aircraft reading lights.

These are the lights i'm planning on using as reading lights on the sides of the interior walls at the front of the cabin. I don't have them yet, but seem like they should work pretty well.

I got these from Amazon, same type of fixture. Not great quality, but they work. They're wired in place & were tested before I buttoned up the outside walls, just to be sure. I use a small AGM battery from an alarm panel & alligator clips for testing everything as I go.

Different color, but those are exactly the lights I bought and they both were bad...

The bases on mine are similar but mine are full stainless and pretty decent quality.

These are what I used and couldnt be happier. Tons of light, very small, decent little lights. I use an external switch personally, but the little built in seems to work well as well

Mine came from Goodwill $.99 each less 30% for old farts day ($.69 each)

Image

My lighting in Chubby is remotely switched so it is comfortable to reach the toggle switch while lying down.

The fireplace surround is now the headboard of the bed. The lantern is the interior light and the switch is about 15" below the light.
Growing older but not up !

I have the lights that Chello is talking about. I hooked up one last night, I like it and ordered a couple more. I will have 4 of them in the cabin. 2 toward the cabinets With a switch at the doors and 2 at the head of the bed on the internal switchs.

Thanks for the help everyone!
I decided to go with an aircraft style for now, it is flush mount so I don't need to modify the ceiling and it has a easy to find switch... :D
