I have not got to this point yet on my build, but I had a thought.
How do you keep the third brake light from flashing with your turn signals?

When I hit my left signal, the left side of my third brake light flashes. It's the way it's wired. The whole thing lights up when the brakes come on. It works just like your tail lights except it's a strip.

Sorry,
But my suggestion to you.....is to go to a small metal fab shop that has a nice finger break and give them a couple of bucks to break whatever you need.
If you lay it out, and figure out the order, and write up or down on each line you need broken. The actual break time is only a couple of minutes.
Thus, you will be charged very little (beer fund cash) to have this done.
And it will look professional and you will be happy!
I have "THREE" metal breaks and still go down the road to a "sheet metal guy" who has better finger break than mine for my breaks!
Cheap at half the price!........my money well spent.
Do what "You" do best, and farm out the things you are not confident with or don't have the equipment for! You will save money in the long run!! ;)
Looking forward to meeting you at Shasta!

If you have a singe filament third brake light ( not a strip designed for this application), you hook the third brake light directly to the output side of you "Brake Light Switch".....the wire that would feed your steering column that information.

I more-or-less used Halfdome's method: viewtopic.php?t=59328

Mine has a core of epoxy-sealed popular that screws to the 'drop and then the light attaches to the core.

That light, that I bought off eBay, has the three lights, brake light, and indicators.

Tony

I actually like your better a bit I think I'm going to keep pushing with the ones I have now but I will be on the look out for the one you have in the near future.

Did you get a how wide was the pice of angle on your? I am asking cuz I want to try your method before I settle in on one.

KCStudly wrote:I've never had great results bending with the flat billed vise grips. They're better at gripping two pieces together than they are at bending, and they don't solve the problem of the far side of the bend bulging up. Remember it is better to move in smaller increments than in one big go.

The 80 inch measurement is taken at the widest point, so don't forget to include your fenders and/or tire bulge, whichever is wider. Also, in my experience, they will round up, so 79-3/4 gets written down as 80 inches, not under. :x

OOHHHHH good call on that one I would have been way off and it's a good thing I have already settled on a 3rd brake light because my 'drop is 79" wide so to be on the safe side I'll push with the 3rd brake light.

Thanks for the insight on the billed pilers saves me a bit of time.

That's a good question because I thought the same thing too, but after talking to my guys over at the rev shop he sold me brake lights with 3 wires instead of the 2 wired ones. The 3 wire lights give you the ability to have a dim running light always on ( granted they are turned on in the first place) and then there is a signal wire for brakes and turn signals and finally of course a grounding wire. I like this better other wise I would have had 3 oval lights in the back one brake, one turn signal, and one reverse light. This keeps it down to just two on each side. I'm sure if I dug hard enough to I old find them all in one set but where's the fun it that.
For my 3rd brake light I haven't even thought of that so now I'll have to do what Brain said and wire it to my brake peddle or find a way to get a signal from just my brake lights which I can do after looking up the wiring diagram for my Edge to find the proper signal for the revise lights.
But I do like Tony's 3rd too which is kinda neat to have a turn signal in the 3rd brake light.

You know what I'm over here googling the nearest metal or hvac shop and well, I'M A DAMN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC lol I have a sheet metal shop right here on base and if I can smooth talk the flight chief I just might be bale to get it bent for free. Or I can ask around and see if I can use it as a "Trainning Event" lol for a young fresh new Airman to do.

I was telling my wife you guys are coming down from Canada for this event and she was a bit surprise. But yeah we're really excited too this being our first trip and all it should really be a blast. My boy keeps asking if the campers ready to go yet he asks me everyday he gets home from school. I'm really excited to see some of your work from the photos you have posted I'm sure what ever you come in will be a pleasure to look at. Look out for us we'll be in spot #17.

I was curious how to hook it up and act like a car. So I found this:
https://www.etrailer.com/question-23155.html
Essentially you install an additional tail light converter to your trailer and hook up the brake output to the third brake light and don't use the other outputs.

Yes, this will be our 4th year in a row to attend this event........and it is only 804 miles from the end of our driveway.
Miss Piggy made that trip on her first time out of the driveway! That year we towed as pictured below with our 1946 Studebaker PU.
We will have the Hyundai Santa Fe with MP or Kermit in tow this year.
It is just so easy tow and travel with a teardrop, mileage means nothing to us! ;)
You are right at the entrance to the campground where you will see everyone coming in if you get there early enough.
And not to hijack your Thread, but......Dave are you giving any thought to zipping down the Canyon to join us in Yakima for Apr. 22 - 24th Campout. So far I think we have 10 TD'S coming for that weekend, 4 continuing on to Shasta.

Get your Passports in order so you can come up to Canada for a visit! 8)

It's 1" x 4". I found it on eBay.

My current work schedule has put my trailer on hold. We are short handed and free time is all but gone. I wont be able to complete by then.
I may be able to come up for a day, we'll see. :worship:

I thought your trailer was far enough along to camp in already??
I will certainly keep you posted on our plans for the Yakima Campout.

Well I made some serious progress this weekend, I have the first door on installed and finished. I think it looks really good and nice to see what the final profile will look like.

Although in the end the interior of the door didn't end up how I wanted it I'm still happy, I knew making my own doors was going to be a challenge. I still think I can look at them and be happy about it.

My two cents about building your own doors is take your absolutely time, label everything top bottom front back and make sure your really positive your skill set will allow you to do this. I have never done this before and this really challenged my skills make sure your read, read, read, READ other builders door plans, this will really help I think I read over a dozen or so other builders doors and learned quite a bit from their mistakes and I still made them.
