On the outside in a battery box for easy acess and centered over the axle. Same for my propane tank, but opposite side.

In the galley, just behind the axle. With the propane tank in the tongue box and the spare tire in front of that, my tongue weight is just about all I can lift.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

The battery and your spare tire are two items which have significant weight and do not need to be in a particular location to function well. As you are designing your tear you need to consider tongue weight. If your tongue weight is getting to heavy move both towards the rear and if to light adjust forward. To little tongue weight or to much is going to result in a trailer that does not tow well. Use these two easily moved items to get the best ride you can.

I enjoyed this question, it is something I am trying to figure out myself. No place to put it in the rear and to heavy on the tongue with my other gear.
Maybe on the floor of my car and move it when I get there?

The reason I love my drop is that it is ready to go, very little setup. Moving and connecting the battery takes away from vision!

That's my dilema, small tongue which is where I carry my side tent. I can't permanently mount the box if I want to be able to open the lid, Hmm mmm I will figure something out.

I see the pro's and con's like this

On Tongue
Pros
leaves more space in the galley
balances weight in the galley
venting is easy in a battery box

Cons
Long power lines from the tongue back to the galley and main power distribution area ( unless you can put it up front)
A big chunk of weight on the tongue
Uses space that could be used for wood or other "dirty" stuff.

In Galley
Pros
Balances weight on the tongue ( Lets face it, anything in front of the axle adds tongue weight, so a light tongue usually isn't a problem)
Shorter run to the power distribution. ( most of us put our power panels near the galley bulkhead, so you can save wire and trouble this way)

Cons
uses galley space which can be valuable space
might need some provisions for venting ( not a problem for me)

Don't forget about putting the battery in the basement. :D

Pros:
Battery is out of the way, saves space in the galley and the tongue box.
doesn't contribute to tongue weight as bad as in the tongue box.
Easy venting.
Ready to go. (same for everything except the car trunk)

Cons:
Inaccessible for service/maintenance
Loss of ground clearance.
Complicates design and construction.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

Pros, don't need to move battery every time!

I've been tempted to build a drop down for the battery below the galley, I think I could fit it under my fridge drawer if I just dropped it a few more inches. But I can't seem to get the motivation to cut the hole in the floor.

:frightened: It was scary enough just drilling a couple of holes thru the floor. Building a basement for 75-100# to bounce around? Double scary. :frightened: :frightened:

I went to carrying my spare in the TV. It was easier to work around that easy, and saved the weight of a carrier.
