Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

I like the design. I have been thinking of doing something similar. The only difference maybe some way to tilt the panels to track the sun. not sure I will need to do that though, I'm just now starting to look into solar systems.

I decided that storing gasoline in the gen compartment where the temp hits 150F is probably not a great idea. Those blue cans can still be purchased in the US but thanks to the EPA and CARB morons the red (gas) and yellow (diesel) are no longer made here with the original locking metal cap. But you can get them overseas if you really want them.

Somebody has probably already done something similar but I do not recall seeing it. So here is a very easy way to turn the ramp into a deck without any modifications to the trailer. My barlock assembly and ramp frame did not bend with my weight on it although I have not gotten the whole family on it. Each chain assembly is rated to 350 lbs.

Yes, I have seen it done before and listed in this forum. But I just tried to find it for you and could not locate it.
Basically. It was done just about the same as yours. I think the poster used bigger chain and added some more framework support in the ramp. And it connected at the trailer with more support in the frame. Have you tested the strength of the bar you have connected it to?

I have a medium duty 2600# ramp so the barlock hasp is solidly mounted into the ramp frame. I was concerned about the hasp bending but gently jumping up and down on it was fine (150lbs). I don't think a couple of adults sitting on it will be a problem. The bar seems really strong and is mounted into the steel door frame. Of course some trailers may have lighter construction.

Hello, Long Time, No Post! But I am back with some updates. Over the winter I upgraded my floor. If you read my thread from the beginning you know I used coin tread "G Floor". The problem with that product is it expands and contracts alot with temperature changes so it has to be free floating. I put Deck Restore on my ramp so I decided to go with a darker color and do the entire interior. I was able to level some spots and build it up in some areas. Thicker areas took over a week to fully dry so there was some shrinkage. I used the special roller on the first application and then brushed it 2-3 more times so it is more smooth. I used a spackle blade to fill over holes. I cut the G Floor mat and use it as a protector now for when I roll in things with black tires which mark it up. The deck restore does get dirty so it is a bit splochy in the photo. So far the Deck Restore has been a great choice. It has some flex to it and is a bit soft. It did crack along where the plywood butts together but that isn't a big deal and I expected that because the ramp did the same thing. I believe Rustoleum reformulated it a few years ago to make it stick better. I did prepare the plywood by using a sander and roughing it up first. Then I used the recommended primer. But the earlier formulation is used on my ramp and it has held up fine straight on the bare wood.

I also installed an escape hatch in the floor. I have no windows (because Zombies can see you) so I needed a way to get out if the door gets blocked. Now I can escape out the bottom.

I used stainless steel boat hardware and built up the Deck Restore around it so it was flush.

This is also a good ventilation hole.

One more little thing: I am paranoid about being rear ended by kids texting on their phones. So I installed a really obnoxious flashing triangle LED brake light. Sorry I can't show you how bright it is but believe me it gets peoples attention. The bars and flasher are available on amazon if you want the part numbers. I wanted a Yosemite Sam tire cover but all I could find was Taz but he works too. I don't know why I blocked out my license tag. Like who is going to come looking for ME??

Image

My next post will talk about the hitch, weight of truck and trailer and towing which has been a problem for me. It turns out my Ram Diesel 2500 and 7000 lb trailer are fully at capacity!

Mar519, Howdy;

You may (if you wish to not be hassled), want to read up on the Triangle shape usage.

Maybe another shape for your attention getter????

Hank, I did wonder about that and tried to research it some. So far no cops have pulled me over and around here they would probably think it was a good idea. Out on the interstate might be a different story. The flasher goes rapidly a few times then goes steady so people don't go nuts while stopped behind me.

Your killing me

I got 6 of those on my rear end as regular rear end lights, best investment ever on the whole damn trailer
Mine are so bright, driving behind me will get you serious LED BRUN , much less when I stomp on the breaks - you could go blind.
Folks keep min 100' distance behind me. First I was a little worried LEO would freak out and throw me in jail for malicious blinding, but no problem in 20K
I also installed SIDE FLASHERS, they are fantastic grand slam out of the ballpark..... Before when I drove past highway on ramps , or onto freeways, some blind crack smoking dirtbags would not see my trailer....and near side swipe me.
Now they CRAP their shorts on the light show.......

Mark LOLROTF

I got that already, horns for under the trailer & 2 back up truck beepers. Loud as hell.

You can't believe how stupid people are, with my light show & 4 way flashers i was backing up at truck stop and some old broad with her 2 lb chiwowa talking a crap on the asphalt just walks behind me like I was invisible on a 10 acre truck stop. It's just not safe outside in the real world. It's filled with stupid people.
