I use a P51 military can opener, use them at home too.
The P51 is larger than the P38. Works great, takes up very little space.

Don't like them. I rather use a swiss army knife. Simple cheap works. Now there is an older knife that I have which was made in England by hand it had a spike like can opener that sucker can beat the twist open ones once you know how to use it. My grandfather opened cans in seconds.

Hey, Brushy Bill. I used to carry a P38 on my key ring. It came in handy many times. Then 9/11, and I had to stop carrying it when flying. It's in a drawer around here somewhere. I'm going to have to dig it out, now that I'm retired and don't fly for business any more, in fact I don't intend to fly any more.

Yes jandmz. I remember my uncle who was a Vietnam
vet pulling his keyring out and using a p38 to adjust the
carb on a 69 mustang I had back in my mispent youth.
He had been out of the service for several years
at that time.

I used a Swing-A-Way for many years but it was becoming increasingly frustrating to use, especially for my wife, (interrupted cuts in the lid probably caused by the can). I started trying others of the same design and they were worse. I stumbled across the "safe cut" aka "smooth edge" design and I love it. It cuts through the side of the rolled edge at the top of the can.

Mine was marketed under the Good Cook brand at my local grocery store and cost me $17.

I found the same type made by the same company (Bradshaw) at Wal-Mart for $9.

A friend gave us a lever action can opener. It took us awhile to figure out how it worked but now we love it:

It cuts through the side of the can like the safe cut so you can re-use the can for leftovers.

P-38. Got one on my key ring and has been there since 78.

The campers all have a swing away can opener in the utensil drawer Image

The best performing is one of the safety cut style. Mine at the house is a pampered chef Image

And no I did not pay the ungodly Pampered chef price I got mine at Goodwill for $1.99
Growing older but not up !
